Thames River Turns Into Glamorous Superyacht Harbour for London Olympics 2012

The world is focused on London for the summer Olympic Games 2012 which takes place between July 27th and August 12th.

NEW YORK, NY, August 12, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The games have drawn in some incredible luxury yachts for charter, impressive tall ships and lavishly equipped cruise liners which are vying for moorings, now priced at over 9000 pounds, on the Thames River in the heart of London. Britain's largest warship, HMS Ocean, is also docked on the banks of the 215 mile long river, adding an extra attraction to the already spectacular event.

Helping to turn the Thames into a glitzy and glamorous location, more remnant of Monaco is Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft Corp, his vessel Octopus is on a super yacht charter with a difference. Equipped with a 57 person crew, Octopus is currently moored at West India dock for the world to see, outside the headquarters of Barclays and HSBC banks. Also enjoying his very own super yacht charter is Frank Lowy, chairman of Westfield Group (WDC). His luxury yacht, Ilona cannot be missed with the Australian flag dancing in the cool, British breeze. The moorings are only half an hour's walk from Olympic Stadium, perfect for the rich and famous looking to see some of the sporting action.

It's not only the rich and famous who are docked in London for this prestigious sporting event, cruise ships Braemar and Gemini are moored at King George V Dock, simply to provide accommodation for approximately 2000 Olympic workers during this 2 week period. Braemar is a 196 meter cruise liner which is abundantly equipped with two swimming pools, two Jacuzzis and a pool side bar as well as a hair salon and golf practise nets.

The nautical delights don't stop there, throughout the Olympics you can see 14 impressive tall ships which sail daily between Greenwich and Tower Bridge, bringing back some nostalgia and charm to the now super modern and luxurious yachting industry.

Due to the London Olympic Games 2012, the port of London authority, which is responsible for directing navigation over a 95 mile stretch of the Thames river, has registered more than 1100 vessels, and therefore has stepped up security and safety on the river. Fran Read, a spokeswoman for the Canal and River Trust said; "It's the most activity the dock has seen since its days as a trading port, and certainly the most super yachts we've ever had in West India Quays."
