Advances in Cataract Surgery Make It Safer, More Effective

New technology gives cataract surgery a whole new level of precision, allowing for better surgical outcomes than ever before, says Ahmad A. Amir, M.D. a board-certified ophthalmologist who performs eye surgery in San Luis Obispo.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA, August 25, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ahmad A. Amir, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist with Pacific Eye, a practice that specializes in eye surgery in San Luis Obispo and surrounding cities. The practice offers state-of-the-art options for cataract surgery, including the new ORA System.

"One of the most exciting new tools we have is the ORA System," Dr. Amir says. "This revolutionary system provides cataract surgery with a whole new level of precision."

The ORA System uses Optiwave refractive analysis, which takes precise measurements of the eye using a reflective beam of low-intensity laser light. At any point during the surgical procedure, measurements can be taken, analyzed and used to guide the surgeon's decision on how best to optimize the patient's vision. This allows surgeons to achieve a more exact, customized level of vision correction for each individual.

"ORA is now available to cataract patients at all of our locations, and we are seeing outstanding results," Dr. Amir says.

Pacific Eye has 7 locations to provide treatment for a wide range of eye conditions as well as optometry in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties.

The board-certified ophthalmologists at Pacific Eye use the ORA System to improve the accuracy of vision correction during cataract surgery, reducing the chance that patients will need to wear glasses after the procedure.

"These new advances definitely bring an added benefit to cataract surgery," Dr. Amir says. "Many of our patients are now looking forward to an even more outstanding result following cataract surgery. For many patients, even if they have had to wear corrective lenses all their lives, we can improve their vision as part of the cataract procedure and free them from having wear glasses or contact lenses.

"It's great to see someone who has worn glasses for 50 or 60 years suddenly be able to see clearly without them. I know it's a cliche, but for many of my patients, it's a life-changing experience."

Pacific Eye also specializes in pediatric vision and can serve the entire family's needs for eye care with its 9 ophthalmologists and an optometrist serving San Luis Obispo and the entire Central Coast.

The team of board-certified ophthalmologists at Pacific Eye is recognized as the premier eye care group on California's Central Coast with eye centers in San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria, Pismo Beach, Paso Robles, Morro Bay and Lompoc. The practice is built on integrity, experience, innovation and a commitment to excellence in every procedure. Pacific Eye offers the most sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic procedures available, including custom cataract surgery using the latest in advanced implants; all FDA-approved refractive procedures, including the area's only IntraLase LASIK; treatment and surgery for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and eye misalignment; and pediatric eye care.
