CSU San Marcos to Hold Information Sessions for Master of Arts in Education, Communicative Sciences and Disorders Program

Cal State University San Marcos, Extended Learning holds information sessions for Master of Arts in Education, Communicative Sciences, and Disorders program through the months of September and December.

SAN MARCOS, CA, September 04, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) has scheduled several information sessions for those interested in their Master of Arts in Education, Communicative Sciences and Disorders Program in September-December. The information sessions are free to any interested students. Applications for the program are now being accepted for Spring 2013 admission. Interested applicants should act quickly; the priority registration deadline is January 18, 2013. This program prepares students to work in the speech language pathology field.

At these sessions, students will learn more about the program, meet with faculty and have questions answered. Current students often attend to help prospective students develop a rich understanding of the program. Information sessions are scheduled for: September 10, October 1, November 5, and December 3.

The program typically takes five consecutive semesters to complete, including summer term. Students will complete 75 units of coursework, which is geared toward the public school system but is also relevant for those interested in the private sector. In addition to classroom learning, students must put in at least 400 supervised hours of community based practice. This helps students to develop skills and increase exposure. Successful completion of the program prepares students for state licensure in California, CTC credentialing, and ASHA certification.

This program is currently in the pre-accreditation process by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology through the American Speech Language Hearing Association. This pre-accreditation status is awarded to schools with developing programs for a maximum of five years.

Interested students should apply directly to the program through Extended Learning, at CSUSM. Live interviews may be required as part of the application process. Accepted applicants must quickly respond to their acceptance letter to avoid losing their position to another candidate on the wait list.

CSUSM is pleased to offer a variety of information sessions every month at its San Marcos and Temecula campuses. Other September sessions will include information on the university's Master of Science in Nursing, accelerated nursing degree and RN-to-BSN programs.
