Newest Health Journeys Guided Imagery Offering Takes Aim at Traumatic Brain Injury

It's a monumental challenge, but one that has languished outside of our nation's consciousness for far too long. Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is finally in the spotlight. Health Journeys' TBI program addresses the condition's myriad of symptoms.

AKRON, OH, September 14, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- It's a monumental challenge, but one that has languished outside of our nation's consciousness for far too long. Now, thanks to recent news reports - from the battlefields overseas, to the football fields right in our own backyards - Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) has finally been thrust into the spotlight. Researchers are just beginning to understand the intricacies of TBI, and most importantly, the best treatments for this complex condition.

According to a study in The New England Journal of Medicine, each year, more than 1.5 million Americans sustain mild traumatic brain injuries with no loss of consciousness and no need for hospitalization. An equal number sustain injuries sufficient to impair consciousness but insufficient to necessitate long-term care.

The guided meditation in the Traumatic Brain Injury program was designed at the request of the U.S. Marine Corps' Med Cell unit, a national crisis call center based in Quantico, Virginia. Created by Health Journeys' own Belleruth Naparstek, it was written with the help of prominent neurologist, Dr. Robert Scaer, and many TBI survivors and caregivers. "We know from the research that guided imagery remediates some of the impacts of stroke and Parkinson's, so why not TBI?" says Naparstek. "We'll test for efficacy, but it's a good bet that this makes a difference. It's certainly worth our best shot."

The Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) calls TBI the "signature wound" of both Iraq and Afghanistan veterans - with an estimated 200,000 U.S. troops suffering from it.

"The welfare of our service people, our reserves, our veterans and their families matter hugely to us," adds Naparstek. "We all appreciate the sacrifices they make for the rest of us, and that's why Health Journeys is offering a 15 percent Gratitude Discount off of our normal prices for our transitioning troops, reserves, veterans and their families." Members of the military can take advantage of this discount by entering the promotional code "SS1508" at checkout.

Traumatic Brain Injury targets a wide range of symptoms and difficulties, such as headache, coordination, balance, memory, concentration, word retrieval, fatigue, and sensitivity to light, noise and touch. The program is also designed to help even out mood swings, alleviate depression, soothe agitation, instill hope, and inspire a return of confidence and self-esteem.

"We have found that this imagery is also suitable for Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), as well as stroke and other insults to brain functioning - and can serve as a complement to our stroke imagery," says Naparstek. "It's also been helpful for many symptoms resulting from Parkinson's, M.S. or other neurological conditions."

Traumatic Brain Injury comes with affirmations - and the imagery is segmented more than usual with subtle ID markers that define each section of the imagery narrative. That means the listener can go directly to his or her favorite part. This allows for brief listening intervals for TBI sufferers who get too fidgety or distracted to listen for a full 25 minutes.
