Atlanta Pest Control Company Team Pest USA Expresses Concern Over Recent Mosquito-Related Disease Outbreaks

With 2012 being the worst year on record for West Nile Virus in the United States, Atlanta pest control company Team Pest USA expresses concern over mosquito-borne illnesses and offers mosquito control options.

NORCROSS, GA, September 17, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Atlanta pest control company Team Pest USA wishes to express its concern over the recent outbreak in mosquito-transferred diseases. Mosquito-borne illnesses are one of the most prevalent causes of death worldwide, and a recent surge in both West Nile virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus (EEE) has given rising cause for Americans to fear mosquitoes in addition to hating them.

The CDC is reporting that 2012 is the worst year yet for West Nile Virus infections in the United States. As of September 4th, all 48 contiguous states have reported instances of West Nile virus infections. This high activity has caused 1,993 reported human cases of West Nile, with 87 of those cases resulting in death.

West Nile has been a common risk of mosquito interaction since its presence was first detected in the US in 1999. It has certainly been the most prevalent mosquito-borne illness represented in the media. However, this focus may shift given the recent death of a 70 year old man due to Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in Massachusetts.

On September 6th, news organizations began announcing the death of a Metrowest, MA, resident who had died of EEE. The victim had been admitted to the hospital in August and perished a few days after his admission. Coroners were concerned to discover that the autopsy confirmed that the victim had died of EEE. This death caused Massachusetts officials to raise the EEE threat to "critical" and "high" in the immediate and surrounding areas respectively.

EEE is more commonly found in horses than humans, but it is a growing concern for healthcare officials because there is no cure for EEE when a person contracts it. Treatment consists entirely of treating symptoms--which does not always work.

"Our hearts go out to the families of victims of mosquito-borne illnesses like West Nile and Eastern Equine Encephalitis," says Brandon Pelfrey, owner of Atlanta pest control company Team Pest USA. "More and more, we are being reminded that mosquitoes aren't just pests. They are a real danger to our health, one that can have dire consequences."

The Atlanta exterminators at Team Pest USA offer a variety of tips to help keep yourself protected from mosquito-borne illnesses. If you are planning to be outside, always remember to use a strong, mosquito-repelling bug spray and try to wear protective clothing. For your own lawn, Team Pest USA highly recommends implementing a mosquito control system and eliminating any sources of standing water.
