Medical Linen Service Angelica Corporation Discusses the Problem of Rising Superbugs

Medical linen service Angelica Corporation would like to discuss the problem of rising superbugs.

NORCROSS, GA, November 21, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Medical linen service Angelica Corporation would like to discuss the problem of rising superbugs, particularly their tendency to spread in hospitals.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (or MRSA) is perhaps the most prevalent of the superbug issues. MRSA is a bacterium that causes a whole host of infections known commonly as staph infections. If caused by MRSA, they will be extremely difficult to treat because they have developed a resistance to our usual antibiotics.

Hospitals tend to have particularly higher rates of these infections. One reason is that people in hospitals tend to have already weakened immune systems, and thus may be more susceptible than usual. Another reason is the extremely high rate of human turnover. Many people pass through hospitals each day, touching things and leaving germs behind. Linens in particular tend to trap and spread things like MRSA.

One easy way for hospitals to begin discouraging the growth and perpetuation of these superbugs, rather than continuing to be a breeding ground, is to have all linens sanitized at one of Angelica's hospital linen service facilities.

"As these superbugs get evolve, we all have a responsibility to prevent the spread of infections," explains Aly Merritt, Marketing Manager of Angelica Corporation. "For the individual this might mean remembering to use hand sanitizer in public places. For hospitals, a lot of it comes down to keeping the linens and uniforms clean."

Angelica Corporation has grown from the small business they were in 1878 to the leader in healthcare laundry service that they are today. In these years they have developed the knowledge and expertise to provide sanitation that hospitals and their patients can trust.
