What Optimistic Teens Expect from Their Financial Future

reed.co.uk are wondering whether teenagers are positive about their future prospects? Well it seems so, as many expect to earn their own house by the age of 25.

LONDON, ENGLAND, December 10, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- While they may have only just received their GCSE results, many teenagers have begun thinking about their future prospects. And it seems as though most of them are feeling optimistic about their financial outlook.

According to a survey by JP Morgan Asset Management, many young people expect to own their houses by the age of 25, despite the fact that this is five years earlier than the national average. Additionally, 27% of teenagers surveyed believe that their first salary is likely to be about GBP22,600 or more.

Many students are also quite clear about the future jobs that they want, with JP Morgan's research revealing that healthcare still remains the career path of choice for girls. With 22% of girls choosing to pursue this profession, it currently remains more popular than careers in education and fashion.

On the other hand, boys tend to select IT jobs, with 16% of those surveyed expressing a fondness for this sector. This is followed by careers in engineering and healthcare. Furthermore, a total of 27% of teenagers hope to own their own company, although more boys would rather be their own boss than girls.

This long term plan for financial independence is very admirable, and can be seen as a result of the relative strength of the British economy. According to the Economist, unemployment currently stands at 8.1%, and while this is above the pre-depression level, this figure is still relatively low compared to the rest of the G7 countries.

Among the G7 countries, only Canada (which was largely untouched by the financial country) has a higher employment rate than Great Britain. The Economist also suggests that the slowly swelling job count has lifted aggregate incomes, and has helped to bolster consumer spending. In addition, inflation is beginning to subside and wages are certainly beginning to rise slowly.

With this picture of encouragement, reed.co.uk believes that teenagers have every right to be optimistic about their future prospects. With a slow and steady recovery hopefully on the way, it seems as though the young people of Britain will lead the charge for new jobs.
