Old Money Dealers, Antique Money, Now Buy Collectible 1914 Red Seals

Antique Money is buying the rare 1914 red seal bills that were issued for a short time before World War I.

NORCROSS, GA, May 08, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rare paper currency dealer, Antique Money, is buying 1914 series red seal bills that were briefly issued as Federal Reserve Notes (FRN) before World War I. They are known for their bright red seals. The red seals are the oldest and most valuable of the Federal Reserve Note (FRN) series.

1914 Red Seal Series Denominations

The 1914 series was issued in $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 denominations. Because there were no replacement notes, none have stars.

- The 1914 red seal $5 notes are the most commonly available of the series. Abraham Lincoln is on the front of the note. Since they are relatively common, those in good condition are more valuable.

- The 1914 $10 bills have a portrait of Andrew Jackson at the center of each bill.

- The $20 1914 red seal bills feature Grover Cleveland's portrait. They are not scarcer than the smaller denominations, but uncirculated $20 bills are rarer than the smaller notes.

- The $50 1914 red seal bills, with Ulysses Grant on the front, are difficult to find in good condition. Because few of these were printed, there are low serial numbers available. Those with a serial number under 100 are worth more to old money collectors.

- The $100 bills, featuring Benjamin Franklin, are available in heavily circulated condition. Uncirculated bills are very rare and valuable to rare currency dealers.

Manning Garrett, the owner of Antique Money, an old money dealer that specializes in collectible U.S. currency, says, "These 1914 red seal bills have the date December 23, 1913 on them, which can be confusing, but they are still considered 1914 red seals."
