Dr. J. Eugene Grigsby III Named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year for Excellence in Public Health

Dr. Grigsby is a national leader in healthcare program development



    LOS ANGELES, May 22, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Eugene Grigsby, President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Foundation, has been named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year in Public Health. While inclusion in Worldwide Who's Who is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Who's Who membership.

Dr. Grigsby, who has more than four decades of experience in healthcare and social programs, has been president and chief executive officer of the National Health Foundation for the past 11 years. The nonprofit organization, which is based in Los Angeles, is dedicated to creating viable, self-sustaining health care programs for underserved populations. In his leadership role with the foundation, Dr. Grigsby oversees all daily operations, including strategic planning and business development.

Prior to assuming his current position, Dr. Grigsby filled a number of key roles with other leading organizations, including serving as a professor of urban planning at the University of California, Los Angeles for more than three decades. In addition, he was the founder and president of an urban planning consulting firm, The Planning Group.

Dr. Grigsby, who entered the nonprofit healthcare field due to a lifelong passion for helping others, attributes his success to his previous experience as an educator and consultant who focuses on solving complex problems. He has co-edited three books, "Shaping a National Urban Agenda: The Role of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning;" "Residential Apartheid: The American Legacy;" and "Regions that Work: How Cities and Suburbs Can Grow Together;" as well as a number of journal publications. Over the next five years, he would like to develop the organization in preparation for his retirement.

Dr. Grigsby holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from Occidental College and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Throughout his career, he has been active in numerous civic and volunteer organizations. As a past member of the Los Angeles Times Board of Advisors, Dr. Grigsby wrote a regular column on economic issues. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Kaiser Foundation Health Plans and Hospitals, Kaiser Health Plan and Hospitals Mid-Atlantic Advisory Board, and Occidental College. He also chairs the Board of Directors of the California Hospital Medical Center.
