Bill McKelvey Named a VIP Member of Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Higher Education

Dr. McKelvey is a leader in organization science



    LOS ANGELES, June 25, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bill McKelvey, Professor Emeritus at University of California, Los Angeles, was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Who's Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.

Dr. McKelvey has more than a half-century of experience as a professor and organization science researcher, at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). In his work at UCLA, Dr. McKelvey handled a wide range of editing, writing, and researching duties, including writing papers in organization science, performing various administrative functions, and hosting Visiting Scholars from all around the World. Dr. McKelvey is perhaps best known for his classic book Organizational Systematics (1982), which remains the standard treatment of organizational taxonomy and 70+ articles and chapters pertaining to complexity science applications to organizations and management.

Prior to taking his current Emeritus position at UCLA, Dr. McKelvey filled a number of key roles for the university, including serving as a Director of the Interdepartmental Program on Complexity Science and Agent-based Computational Modeling, and chairing the building committee and advising the architects responsible for designing the $110 million Anderson Complex at UCLA. During his long career, he has earned a reputation for being the foremost expert in the world on organization science.

Dr. McKelvey, who entered the organization science field due to a lifelong interest in the subject, attributes his success to his analytical-theorizing gifts and his groundbreaking research. Over the next five years, he would like to continue writing books and articles while maintaining his work with universities around the world.

Dr. McKelvey holds a Ph.D. in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Over the years he has taught courses in psychology, socio-technical systems, management & strategy, organization & complexity sciences, and econophysics. He has chaired or served on the PhD committees of over 60 candidates. He has served on over 50 Committees at UCLA and has been Research Professor at various institutions in Europe; currently at Kedge Management School, Marseille, France. Outside of his professional life, he is a devoted supporter of the music arts and generously contributes to nonprofit institutions such as OperaWorks. During his free time, Dr. McKelvey enjoys attending opera performances.
