In this New York Facelift, the Eyes Have It

Dr. Elliot Jacobs, a board certified plastic surgeon practicing in Manhattan, offers a less-invasive way for patients to rejuvenate the mid face and eyes.

NEW YORK, NY, July 03, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nowhere are citizens more image conscious than in New York. Facelift surgery, eyelid lifts, neck lifts and other cosmetic procedures promising rejuvenation are wildly popular in The Big Apple. But these traditional forms of plastic surgery aren't always the right choice for men and women experiencing early signs of facial aging.

Dr. Elliot Jacobs, a board certified plastic surgeon with a practice on Park Avenue, created a unique procedure called the mid facelift for just that reason. He explains, "In a traditional facelift, the skin and underlying muscles are pulled back toward the ears. Many younger patients actually look more natural and refreshed when their tissues are lifted upward in a vertical direction via a mid facelift." In fact, the earliest signs of facial aging are in the mid face, the triangle bounded by the inner and outer corners of the eyes and the corner of the mouth.

Dr. Jacobs occasionally refers to this unique procedure as an "extended lower eyelid lift." He makes incisions hidden under the lower lashes and which extend outward in a squint line. Through these small openings, he lifts facial tissues and eliminates fat pockets under the eyes. Results include a smooth transition from the upper cheek to the lower eyelid, softened naso-labial folds, enhanced cheekbones and more youthful looking eyes.

To get an idea about what the mid facelift can accomplish, Dr. Jacobs advises candidates to position fingertips on the cheekbone just under the outer corner of the eye and lift gently in a vertical direction. Patients can see how the procedure can improve sagging and bring back a youthful appearance without the risk of an overly tight, feline look.

The mid facelift offers several advantages over a traditional facelift. The procedure is less invasive due to the positioning of the incisions, so downtime is shortened. Dr. Jacobs can also use those same incisions for re-positioning fat to fill facial hollows as needed. The mid facelift costs less than a traditional facelift, and it can be combined with other rejuvenation options such as an upper eyelid lift.

On occasion, a mid facelift can be combined with a traditional face and neck lift - and the results can be remarkable. This combined surgery actually provides gentle pull in two different directions, which greatly enhances the final result without evidencing that surgery has been performed.

Even though it can be a great option for middle-aged men and women, the mid facelift is not offered by most plastic surgery practices. Dr. Jacobs believes it's because many cosmetic surgeons aren't completely comfortable operating near the eyes. "Contrary to the way some surgeons feel, we thoroughly enjoy performing the more delicate procedures for our patients in New York. Facelift surgery, mid facelifts and eyelid lifts are satisfying for us as well as for the men and women we serve," he says.
