Eddy Current Testing Made Easy With The Hytec T5 Probe

The T5 Eddy Current Tube Testing Probe can detect serious defects under and near the crown sheets, at each support, at normal test speeds, while using the same test set up as for the bobbin probe without having to mix the signals.

PHOENIX, AZ, July 09, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Whether you are the Plant Owner, Manager, Quality Control Engineer, Maintenance Supervisor, or Lead Level 3 Certified Eddy Current Tube Analyst working with an Eddy Current Testing company, optimizing the production line time and preventing unscheduled outages is the main goal!

The problem that Eddy Current Tube Analysts face is the detection of flaws in area of tubes that have additional 360 degree metal gain or geometry change. Such areas are the distorted fin area, supports, and wall thickness changes. For greater cost efficiency, testing needs to be done without expensive, slow, and complex test equipment.

What is the solution?

Gene Auville of T5 Hytec Probes says, "The ability to see circumferential cracking before it penetrates through the wall under or near the supports is the most important feature of a solid performing Eddy Current Probe. You want a simple probe that has array probe functionality while testing at bobbin speeds."

He continued by saying, "We have had excellent success using our T5 probe with the detection of circ cracks under the supports in both stainless steel and Titanium heat exchanger tubes - including during multi-week jobs without having to change probes."

"Eddy Current analysts using tube probes to "flaw fish" not only want to make certain their choice of probes will detect all defects for analysis, but do so with the highest degree of accuracy. Testing the bundle with a differential (bobbin) or a x-axis coil set will not detect cracks or pre-cracks under the support and is not reliable as a stand-alone test" noted Mr. Auville.

The bottom line?

1) When you have a scheduled outage you want to make sure your tests are accurate
2) Each tube is analyzed from end to end and all defects are located
3) Testing speed is optimized still seeing under the supports
4) Errors are minimal
5) The data is repeatable enough to be used in defect trend analysis using previous reports

Must be cost effective by:

A) Wider band width for different frequencies (less probes needed for different projects)
B) All size probes balance to each other (less probes needed when using the absolute channel)
C) Detachable heads (less wands needed)
D) Rugged construction (lasts two to three times longer)
