Carolyn E. Woolmer Inducted into Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Technical Writing

    BEDFORD, QUEBEC, CANADA, July 9, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Carolyn E. Woolmer, Owner and Professional Writer of Carolyn Woolmer Documentation Services, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in Technical Writing.

Ms. Woolmer is a Professional Writer with over 20 years' experience working in telecommunications, defence/aerospace, hydroelectric power generation, environmental and earth sciences, IT, and manufacturing. Her focus has been on developing technical and marketing documentation, editing, and French-to-English translating. She attributes her success to her willingness and ability to learn, flexibility with different subject matter, tenacity, reliability, punctuality and discipline.

Ms. Woolmer is dependable, conscientious and diligent. She is committed to quality and devoted to her work. She has acquired a broad skillset in information development, including mastery of the most popular authoring tools and processes required to carry out a project through concept to delivery.

She is a resourceful and enthusiastic researcher, and is capable of quickly grasping, analyzing, and using complex information, processes, systems, technologies and tools. She is very adept at recognizing and following up on potential problems in every aspect of a project, and enjoys the challenge of finding solutions. Extracting information from subject matter experts of all sorts and at all levels is Ms. Woolmer's specialty. She works well on her own, but enjoys and recognizes the importance and value of teamwork.

She has performed needs analyses for completing small- and large-scale projects, taking into account customer and end-user requirements, milestones and available tools and resources, and developed reports based on these analyses, making recommendations as necessary.

She has provided feedback during preliminary product design phases, including identifying technical inconsistencies and anomalies, and ensuring consistency in terminology, interface (GUI) design and corporate image/brand. She has tested hardware and software to verify the accuracy of existing documentation and obtain information to create new documentation.

Ms. Woolmer has led teams of up to 20 writers, which involved mentoring, producing project plans, schedules, assigning work, and ensuring the project goals and objectives were met. She has arranged work and scheduling with illustrators, documentation reviews with subject matter experts, and printing specifications and delivery schedules with print vendors. Through project coordination and mentoring experience, she has acquired many valuable planning, training and interpersonal skills. She is accustomed to working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.

Some of Ms. Woolmer's key achievements include: writing and editing proposals developed in response to RFPs (Requests for Proposal) from DND (Department of National Defence), which resulted in multi-million dollar contract awards; establishing the infrastructure, resources and processes necessary to carry out the update of over 20,000 pages related to the SPERWER Tactical UAV (Unmanned Air Vehicle) as well as coordinating the resources of the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) on behalf of DND; and editing "The Renewable Energy Handbook for Homeowners" by William H. Kemp, which was on the Canadian Best Sellers List in 2004.

Prior to her career in Professional Writing, Ms. Woolmer worked in oil and gas exploration for several years, and earned a Certificate of Geophysics from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (1986).
Forced to consider a new career path following a major downturn in the oil and gas industry in the mid- eighties, she chose to study Modern Languages at Dawson College (1988).

While at Dawson College, Ms. Woolmer chose an elective course in Technical Writing, and here she discovered her true calling. Her Professor encouraged her to pursue a career in Professional Writing, and offered her a letter of recommendation to the facility of her choice. She accepted this offer gratefully, and ultimately received a B.A. in English with a Major in Professional Writing from the University of Sherbrooke (1991). The Professional Writing program focussed on Advertising, Journalism, Technical Writing and Translation.

Ms. Woolmer remains in her career because of her love of writing and opportunities to apply her skills in different fields, thereby continually learning new subjects. She plans to continue to upgrade her skillset by studying professional medical transcription (Professional Career Development Institute - Ashworth College) and web site development (British Columbia Institute of Technology -BCIT).

Her previous employment includes Rheinmetall Canada (formerly Oerlikon Aerospace), Newbridge Networks, Northern Telecom and Sequence Controls & Powerbase Automations. She has done consulting for Innovatia, CMC Electronics, DRS Technologies, Nortel Networks, Pratt & Whitney, Environment Canada and Oerlikon Aerospace, among others.

Ms. Woolmer is a former Director of the Missisquoi Museum. She helps various charitable organizations, and volunteers regularly to help with various community activities and events. Her hobbies include, gardening, collecting stamps, golfing, walking/hiking (a.k.a. entertaining her dog), and downhill and cross-country skiing.
