Architects and Designers Reveal a New Gem in the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel

When it opens in January 2008, the 21-story Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel will command the Seaport District skyline with the vigor of a sailing ship racing in front of the wind.

/24-7PressRelease/ - BOSTON, MA, November 03, 2007 - When it opens in January 2008, the 21-story Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel will command the Seaport District skyline with the vigor of a sailing ship racing in front of the wind.

This architectural nod to the hotel's environs is the work of Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Stubbins Associates. Likewise, the hotel's interior design, created by Beverly Hills, California-based Cheryl Rowley Design, will celebrate the seaport setting, and pay homage to Boston's newest waterfront playground.

Inside the sun-flooded lobby, a vibrant palette of living coral, golden sunfish and ultra-marine blue quickly creates an aquatic ambiance. Like the ebb and flow of the tides, the natural pattern of movement within this public space is palpable. Entrance gives way to lounge, lounge tumbles into library, and so on. A grand circular staircase captures the eye and the imagination, like a nautilus shell cast aside by an errant wave. And a colorful installation of fishbowls, repeating in a pop art pattern, lends a contemporary splash.

"In preparing for this project, we became enchanted with the hotel's waterfront location, as well as the great luxury liners of the 30's & 40's," said Cheryl Rowley. "These influences provided inspiration, and lent an ambient framework within which we could work. By engaging the visual, tactile and emotional senses, we hope that our design will lend a sense of discovery, delight, and excitement to the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel guest experience."

In each of the 471 Boston hotel rooms, the aquatic theme continues. Effervescent patterns bubble up on draperies, linens and lighting fixtures. Custom carpets evoke waves lapping on the shore. Chaise lounges are adorned in seaside Sunbrella stripes. And crowning the top of each luxurious bed, a custom headboard features a panel of carefully framed sea glass.

Artistic aqua elements flow into the meeting and function space at this South Boston hotel, as well. In the Pacific Ballroom, traditional chandeliers are replaced with semi-translucent light panels, backlit and invisibly suspended from inside ceiling coffers to resemble the billowing sails of a ship. Dazzling, spherical lighting features in the Atlantic Ballroom are inspired by the common sea urchin, reminding us that great beauty often exists in plain form.

Many of the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel guestrooms and suites have stunning harbor and city views; all are equipped with 37-inch flat panel TVs and HD-TV, as well as connectivity panels for laptops and MP3 players. The hotel offers over 20,700 square feet of meeting space, including two ballrooms, and state-of-the-art technology featuring a DS-3 line, which operates at about 28 times the speed of a T-1 line. Guests can plan memorable events under the stars on the hotel's unique 5,000 square-foot terrace deck. The Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel's onsite restaurant will feature outdoor seating, a chef's table and an exhibition kitchen. Guests can also enjoy a Starbucks Caf , a lobby lounge, a fitness center with lap pool, spa treatment rooms and an outdoor terrace, as well as a 24-hour business center.

With stylishly subtle aquatic influences and sleek, sophisticated luxury accommodations, Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel will be a beacon oceanfront hotel in Boston for years to come.
