Laser Hair Removal in Tampa Gaining Popularity for Both Men and Women

Simply Smooth Laser Center in Tampa is seeing an increase in both male and female patients for hair reduction procedures.

TAMPA, FL, August 14, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Laser hair removal, which is performed on an outpatient basis at a number of cosmetic surgery practices as well as medical spas and laser treatment centers, is gaining in popularity among both men and women according to the American Academy for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). Caroll Delo, the board certified laser specialist who performs all laser procedures at Simply Smooth Laser Center (http://simplysmoothlasercenter.com), says she has noticed an increase in male patients as well as female.

The end-of-year statistics provided by the ASAPS for 2012 listed laser hair removal as the third most popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedure with a total of over 1.2 million treatments performed. BOTOX Cosmetic injections took the number one spot and hyaluronic acid fillers came in second. Among male patients, laser hair removal was the second most frequently performed procedures after BOTOX.

"It's really the best option we have right now for permanent hair reduction," says Delo, who has been performing laser hair removal in Tampa for over a decade. "It's quick, it's convenient and it's cost effective. It's no wonder that our patient base is increasing."

Laser hair removal is a safe, permanent solution for treating unwanted hair nearly anywhere on the face or body. During a treatment session, the laser energy is aimed directly at the targeted hair follicles. The pigmentation of the hair absorbs this energy, killing the follicle and preventing future regrowth.

Since follicle damage from the laser only occurs if delivered during the individual hair's growth phase, multiple sessions are necessary to ensure that all hairs in the targeted area are treated, and the desired level of hair reduction is achieved.

"Although there are other alternatives for getting rid of unwanted hair, laser hair removal is the only technique that offers the possibility of permanent hair reduction to thin out areas of heavier density," explains Delo. "This is great for patients who want a tidier look in some areas without going totally hairless."

The only other permanent solution for hair removal available today is electrolysis, which treats each hair individually by killing the follicle with an electric charge. This process can be painful and time-consuming, as well as expensive. Lasers are more effective at treating a larger area and a treatment session takes much less time, making laser hair removal the ideal solution for unwanted hair for patients with a busy schedule.

The most popular treatment areas for male patients include the back and shoulders for full removal, and hair reduction through the male chest and upper arms. Men also choose laser hair removal to permanently shape their eyebrows, and to thin the density of underarm hair.

For women, the most commonly treated areas are the legs, bikini line and underarms. Many women opt for laser hair removal to address facial hair concerns in the brows, chin and upper lip rather than undergoing regular salon waxing sessions.
