Atlantic Dentistry Utilizes Dental Implants to Replace Missing Teeth

When a patient is missing a tooth, Atlantic Dentistry is available to restore his or her smile with dental implants.

KITTY HAWK, NC, August 16, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Many people assume that tooth loss is an inevitable part of aging, but most factors that contribute to tooth loss can be controlled much earlier in life. However, if tooth loss does occur, Dr. Markus Heyder and Dr. Stephanie Sweeney are available to replacing missing teeth with dental implants in Kitty Hawk at Atlantic Dentistry.

"The consequences of tooth loss can have a devastating effect on your overall health and self-esteem. With advancements in dentistry, we are able to successfully replace missing teeth with dental implants," said Dr. Markus Heyder, a dentist in Kitty Hawk . "At Atlantic Dentistry we believe in fixing a patient's smile rather than just the tooth, and dental implants allow us to restore a patient's smile for an overall improved appearance."

Dental implants are manufactured "anchors" that are used in both the upper and lower jaws. Surgically inserted into the jawbone, implants become a stable base for artificial replacement teeth. The implant acts as the root of the tooth, and when accompanied by a crown, bridge or denture, the implant will look and perform like the natural tooth that was lost.

Implant surgery is performed in your dentist's office in a three step process. First, your dentist will surgically place an implant directly into the jawbone, replicating a natural tooth root. Following this is the initial surgery where the implant is typically left covered for three to six months to allow the bone to develop around the implant to help hold it in place. This process is called osseointegration. Without osseointegration taking place, the implant may fail.

"In our opinion, none of our patients should have to wear dentures or partials. Dental implants and bridges are far superior tooth replacement modalities and are a large part of Atlantic Dentistry. Almost anyone who has lost a tooth is a candidate for these treatments," stated Dr. Heyder, an Outer Banks dentist.

At Atlantic Dentistry, Dr. Heyder and Dr. Sweeney are always welcoming new patients. Whether a patient is searching for routine cleanings or more complex procedures, such as dental implants in the Outer Banks, Atlantic Dentistry is available to help fix patients' smiles. Dr. Heyder and Dr. Sweeney both love the people and culture on the Outer Banks and Northeastern North Carolina.
