Lucille Proulx Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Art Therapy

Ms. Proulx combines her knowledge of art and childcare to become a successful art therapist



Ms. Proulx plans to offer supervision, coaching and workshops for the professional development of art therapists, councilors and mental health professionals.

    VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA, September 18, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lucille Proulx, Director of the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy (CiiAT), has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in art therapy.

As the director for CiiAT, Ms. Proulx specializes in attachment informed art therapy, including parent child attachment, and she regularly works with children from ages 1 and up and their parent. In the course of her daily duties, she serves as one of three directors of the organization. In addition, she conducts specialized training workshops for professionals and parents across the United States and abroad.

Ms. Proulx has been involved in art therapy for the past 30 years. She was president of the Quebec Art Therapy Association (ATPQ). She is currently vice president of Canadian Art Therapy Association (CATA) and on the Advisory Committee of Arts Health BC/Canada. She is the executive director of the International Program of Art Therapy in Thailand (IPATT) and of Japan International Program of Art Therapy (JIPAT). She is the past executive director of the BC School of Art Therapy.

Ms. Proulx worked in child psychiatry at Montreal Children's Hospital for 15 years where she engaged in art therapy, which involved parents and children receiving art therapy treatment together; she developed this therapeutic method. She attributes her success to hard work, though she has also met a lot of supportive people who have helped her arrive at where she is today. She is the author of Strengthening Emotional Ties through Parent-Child-Dyad Art Therapy, published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers Ltd., London, Eng. and Hebrew Edition by Ach Publishing House, Israel. She became involved in her profession late in life, having begun her university studies at age 50. She then decided to combine her knowledge of child-rearing and art, and received a master's degree in art therapy. Lucille is an exhibiting artist.

With a background in art, child rearing, and community work Ms. Proulx earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology at the University of Ottawa. She then discovered art therapy and completed a master's degree in art therapy at Concordia University in Montreal. She is a Life Time Honorary member of Association des Art-Therapeutes du Quebec (AATQ) and of the Canadian Art Therapy Association (CATA). In 2004 Ms. Proulx went to Thailand with CUSO, a Canadian International Development Association and became informed of the need for art therapy in foreign countries. In years to come, Ms. Proulx plans to carry on the development of art therapy schools internationally. Nationally, she plans to offer supervision, coaching and workshops for the professional development of art therapists, councilors and mental health professionals.
