Dorothy Ann Puzo has more than three decades of film industry experience

NEW YORK, October 25, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Director and Freelance Writer Dorothy Ann Puzo has been named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year in Film Production. While inclusion in Worldwide Who's Who is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Who's Who membership.

Dorothy Ann Puzo has more than three decades of film industry experience. She has worked as a freelance writer and director since college, and has been a member of the Directors Guild of America, an artistic association that has provided services for professionals involved in the film industry, since 1986. Recognized by her film industry peers for her writing and directing expertise, she is currently adapting her father's novel, "Fools Die," into a screenplay. The novel, written in 1978, revolves around the gambling, publishing and film industries in New York, Hollywood and Las Vegas. In addition to her work on "Fool's Die," Dorothy provides private coaching and consulting services.

Ms. Puzo grew up watching movies on television, and she frequently spent time on Paramount Pictures' back lots and sets while her father was writing "The Godfather" film script. Fast forward, Ms. Puzo relates a humorous anecdote of one such occasion near the set of "The Godfather, Part III." "We were on an outdoor set far off on the lawn nestled under a hill. When Al Pacino expressed his concerns about some people in the distance watching a shot, "Francis [Ford Coppola] went off to shoo them away. Al just stood there, now alone, and the opportunity to meet him presented itself. So all 5'9 and 250 pounds of me, with a large brace on my knee, traversed the 15 yards across the lawn at a steady gait. Halfway there, Pacino saw me and looked around for help. As there was none, he now kept his eyes on me as I approached. I stopped a good two arm lengths in front of him and immediately said my name and that my father had said to say 'hello.' I then smiled, turned, and proceeded to walk back the way I came. Halfway there, he shouted after me 'I love that man!' I turned my head and smiled with a little wave and sat back in my place at the sound table."

Ms. Puzo earned a Bachelor of Arts in English language and literature at the University of Missouri at Columbia to further hone her creative skills. Over the years, Dorothy Ann has worked as a prose writer, screenplay writer, director, producer, researcher, movie reviewer, editor, actor, house manager, stage manager, and acting coach. "My father had an enormous impact on my life. His writing and directing skills and knowledge were so impressive he was my Consigliere; he guided me like no other, but my mother taught me how to survive in a man's film industry world: "Tell them not to walk down any dark alleys," she said. "My parents were my greatest supporters," said Dorothy.

A native New Yorker, Dorothy moved to San Francisco in 1974 to study at the American Conservatory Theater and then train at the Jean Shelton Acting School until 1978. She then attended the American Film Institute in Los Angeles as a directing fellow, and went on to work for CinetelFilms, MGM and Sony Pictures. Her directorial debut was the CinetelFilms-funded movie, "Cold Steel," which starred Sharon Stone, Brad Davis (Midnight Express), Anthony LaPaglia and Adam Ant. She has been a member of the Directors Guild of America since 1986.

Dorothy is looking forward to finishing her screenplay adaptation of "Fools Die" and experiencing continued growth in her career. She can be contacted for consulting, freelance writing and private coaching opportunities. She feels that she has a lot to offer the entertainment industry.
