Suspended License Lawyer Sam McRae Addresses License Suspensions for Failure to Appear in Court

Sam McRae Law offers advice on getting your license reinstated as soon as possible after a failure to appear in court.

ATLANTA, GA, January 17, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- If you have ever accidentally missed paying a traffic ticket and failed to appear in court for your citation, you should know that the state of Georgia does not take this offense lightly. Atlanta traffic ticket lawyer Sam McRae wishes to discuss the consequences you could face for failing to appear and how to rectify the situation.

Crime and Punishment

If you fail to appear in court for your traffic citation, two serious consequences can occur: a bench warrant may be issued for arrest and your driver's license may be suspended.

Should your case enter into Failure to Appear (FTA) status, you need to contact the court immediately to schedule a hearing to relieve these two issues.

Although it is legal to try to represent yourself in a FTA case in Georgia, the law is complicated and it is best to have a traffic court attorney present your defense. Your case will be reviewed directly by a judge, who will decide what penalties will apply to you.

Getting Back on the Road

Once you have received the judge's decision, you will have to take additional steps to reinstate your driver's license.

You must either obtain a 912 license reinstatement form or a clearance letter from the court. Then, you must present this documentation to the Georgia Department of Driver Services to have your license reinstated. You may have to pay an additional fee.

"It's important to know that if you are caught driving under a suspended license, you can face severe penalties," says Sam McRae, Attorney at Sam McRae Law. "It's not worth the risk of possibly going to jail or having an even longer suspension period."
