Allen Theatres to Build Eight Screen Cinema at Cascades

The Carlsbad Department of Development and Allen Theatres have announced plans for an eight screen movie cinema in Carlsbad.

CARLSBAD, NM, May 09, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Carlsbad Department of Development and Allen Theatres have announced plans for an eight screen movie cinema in Carlsbad. The new cinema will serve as the anchor facility in the Cascades at Carlsbad, a mixed-use open-air retail center on the banks of the Pecos River.

"We have been watching the Carlsbad market for some time," said Russell Allen, Vice President of Operations with Allen Theatres. "Sales have been trending very strong." Carlsbad is currently home to the Mall Cinema, a three-screen walk-in cinema run by Allen.

The proposed cinema, which will be centrally located at the Cascades, will feature eight screens with stadium seating and digital projection, along with cutting edge amenities to create a unique experience for Carlsbad.

"People have been waiting for this," said Dave Sepich, President for the Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD). "The Cascades finally has a solid anchor, making it a true destination point."

The Cascades at Carlsbad is an outdoor marketplace featuring over 600,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, entertainment, and office space. The Cascades is a shovel ready site, unlike anything in New Mexico, with water features inspired by the Riverwalk in San Antonio and some hotels in Las Vegas.

"People have been going out of town for things like shopping, dining, movies, and entertainment," said Sepich. "We have been working on this development for many years, and we are finally seeing the fruits of our labor. The addition of Allen Theatres really brings a sense of newness to the Cascades, and a great partner for future businesses."

Allen Theatres currently operates over 100 screens throughout New Mexico.

Carlsbad continues its unprecedented market growth, as both industrial and retail sectors are expanding. Carlsbad, in Eddy County, has been leading oil production in the state of New Mexico for three years, and Eddy County was eighth in the nation for oil production in 2013.

The Carlsbad Department of Development is a member supported non-profit organization.
