Tamara Weiss, MD, Recognized by Worldwide Branding for Excellence in Radiation Oncology

    STONY BROOK, NY, May 22, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Tamara Weiss, Associate Professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Stony Brook University Medical Center, has been recognized by Worldwide Branding for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in radiation oncology.

Dr. Weiss has 27 years of professional experience, having recently become an associate professor and interim chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Stony Brook University Medical Center. On a daily basis, she is responsible for overseeing radiation oncology treatment. She also treats thyroid, pediatric and gynecological patients while conducting research on thyroid cancer. On an administrative level, Dr. Weiss coordinates departmental operations.

She attributes her success to her love for her profession and desire to grow professionally. She became involved in her profession because of her interest in the medical field. The highlights of her career were rewriting and editing a chapter on thyroid cancer for the new edition of "Perez and Brady's Principles and Practice of Radiation Oncology."

Dr. Weiss received an MD from The Medical College of Pennsylvania, which is now known as Drexel University College of Medicine, in 1983, and a bachelor's degree in biology from Fairfield University in 1979. She completed her residency at Cooper University Hospital, and she has also earned a master's degree in health care policy and management. In addition to her degrees, she has earned a certification in radiation oncology from The American Board of Radiology. She is a member of the American College of Radiology, The Medical Society of the State of New York, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the American Medical Women's Association, The American Association for Women Radiologists, and Young Israel of East Northport.
