Psychiatrists Brown and Gerbarg Teach Breath~Body~Mind Techniques for Stress Resilience and Well-Being at Cape Cod Institute June 23-27

NY integrative psychiatrists will instruct psychotherapists and other healthcare professionals with breathing and movement practices to reduce stress, relieve psychological and physical disorders, and enhance quality of life for their patients.



    NEW YORK, NY, June 18, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Integrative Psychiatrists Richard P. Brown, MD, and Patricia Gerbarg, MD, will teach evidence-based Breath~Body~Mind for Personal Transformation, Stress Resilience, and Well-Being, on June 23-27, 2014, Monday through Friday, at the Cape Cod Institute, National Seashore at the Nauset School, 100 Cable Road, Eastham, MA.

The week long workshop, approved for CE credits, offers mind-body healing techniques to reduce stress, recover from trauma, relieve physical discomforts, improve relationships, and enhance quality of life. Participants will be taught Qigong movements, breathing practices, and meditations for self-development and for work with mental health patients, military personnel, and anyone affected by mass disasters. Children in hospitals, schools, and special educational settings have also benefited.

The neurophysiological basis for effects of breathing practices will be discussed in concert with relevant clinical studies. Each session includes didactic and experiential components.

The workshop is approved for 15 Continuing Education credits for psychologists, counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists, physicians, nurses, and coaches.

Dr. Brown is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University in New York. He gives over 100 medical lectures every year, including full-day courses for the American Psychiatric Association and other professional groups, as well as workshops for non-profits such as Serving Those Who Serve in New York City. He is a certified teacher of Aikido (4th Dan), Yoga, Qi Gong, and meditation. His workshops have helped thousands of people deal with everyday stress and enabled survivors of trauma and mass disasters to recover their health and well-being.

Dr. Gerbarg is an Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychiatry at New York Medical College. She graduated from Harvard Medical School and the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. In addition to her clinical practice, she lectures, writes, provides consultations, and facilitates the development of research projects on the health benefits of mind-body practices.

The Cape Cod Institute, founded by Gilbert Levin, PhD, is known for the excellence of courses and workshops offered to psychotherapists, organizational consultants, and other professionals who apply behavior science in their work. Programs are taught by leading thinkers in their fields, and participants are drawn from every continent. Classes are in the mornings of a five day week leaving remaining hours for study, leisure, and networking with colleagues. The Institute is in its 35th season.
