J. Martinez Fine Coffees Explains How To Store Gourmet Coffee for Freshness

The Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee dealer, J. Martinez, tells you how to store your coffee the right way. For maximum freshness, never put those beans in the freezer!

ATLANTA, GA, June 18, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Hawaii Kona coffee retailer, J. Martinez, addresses a common myth regarding how coffee should be stored.

Fresh Coffee Means No Fridge or Freezer
Although your freezer is the go-to place for keeping other foodstuffs fresh in the long term, you should never place your coffee in the freezer. The main reason for the bland taste of subsequent batches of coffee is due to the porous qualities of the beans themselves.

When trapped in a freezer among other foods, whether that is frozen pizza, seafood or ice cream, the coffee beans will eventually start to absorb their flavors. In addition, the flavorful oils naturally found in coffee beans are destroyed once frozen, and these are what account for the majority of the taste. Nothing ruins the flavor of a gourmet bag of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee like an overnight stint in the deep freeze! Therefore, the ideal climate for storage purposes is in an airtight container, preferably in a cool, dark spot without a lot of moisture.

According to John Martinez, Owner of J. Martinez & Company, "The only time freezing is a good choice is when you need to store a bulk supply of beans, but keep in mind that the coffee should never go back in the freezer once taken out. We advise all of our customers to brew their coffee within two weeks of purchase as this is recommended time frame for maximum freshness."
