London's Greenwich and Docklands International Festival

Streets of South and East London come alive with free theatre & promenade of the dead

LONDON, ENGLAND, June 19, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- More than 80,000 people are expected to attend the Greenwich & Docklands International Festival, taking place in the historical maritime district of London from 20th to 28th June 2014, the UK's largest annual programme of outdoor dance. Visitors coming to London to see this free street theatre spectacle can choose from many hotels including cheap London hotels. With so much of the entertainment at the nine day GDIF being free, it's both a fun and affordable way to enjoy the city.

The Greenwich & Docklands International Festival is especially good at putting on outdoor dance spectaculars, something the festival's Artistic Director, Bradley Hemmings, appointed Co-Artistic Director (along with Jenny Sealey of the London based Graeae Theatre Company) showed to a worldwide audience at the London 2012 Paralympic Opening Ceremony.

The festival always opens with an epic outdoor spectacular and this year kicks off with Muare on Friday 20th June 2014 which sees aerialists from Spanish-Argentinean company Voala present a bright and physical show in which a group of aerial performers descend from large and revolving mobiles, showcasing beautiful choreography while suspended above the audience at the National Maritime Museum, London SE10.

Further highlights of this year's festival include 'Safe House' from the team behind last year's 'As The World Tipped'; 'Global Streets', which takes place at the festival's newest venue the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park; 'Arka', a Polish theatre spectacular; and 'Deblozay' by French company Rara Woulib who celebrate the rise of the dead.

The festival takes place in outdoor areas in south east London and in the town centres of Greenwich and Woolwich, Canary Wharf, Whitechapel and Bow. Venues including landmarks like the Maritime Museum, Old Royal Naval College and Cutty Sark.
