foodtweeks Partnership with FeedMore Food Bank Helps Families in Need

Virginia food bank adds foodtweeks app as ally to boost donations.

"FeedMore Food Bank is delighted to work with foodtweeks to enable consumers to support our work to end hunger...in a fun and effortless way, while also consuming fewer calories..." - Doug Pick, CEO

STAMFORD, CT, June 24, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The foodtweeks free app and FeedMore Food Bank in Richmond, VA have joined together to stave off hunger. The free app that combines weight management with feeding the hungry has agreed to provide nutritious calories to FeedMore when locals use foodtweeks, helping themselves and those in need eat wholesome meals.

foodtweeks works through the community to engage citizens in creating healthier meals while providing food for families that need assistance from food banks. Each time a user reports "tweeking" (cutting calories from their food), FeedMore Food Bank will receive donations from foodtweeks, enabling the food bank to distribute an equal number of nourishing calories to hungry families. This will come at no cost to the consumer in time or money, as the app is free and easy to use.

foodtweeks also adds incentive by asking users to engage others in their social media by posting a "tweek" on Facebook or Twitter to double or triple each donation. During the summer months, families are more in need of assistance to prepare healthy family meals than during the school year when students have food provided by their schools. foodtweeks and FeedMore Food Bank are combining the social community and the cause to end hunger in a time of increased need.

"FeedMore Food Bank is delighted to work with foodtweeks to enable consumers to support our work to end hunger in our community in a fun and effortless way, while also consuming fewer calories on a daily basis," said Doug Pick, FeedMore CEO. "And foodtweeks aligns with our goal to promote healthy communities. A couple days of tweeking allows us to provide a full nutritious meal to a hungry family."

By combining the unique approach to weight management and donating, foodtweeks generates an interactive community of users that need only tell the free app what they would like to eat or prepare. The app instantly displays images of suggested "tweeks" that remove enough calories to make a positive difference - but not in a way that changes the taste or leaves users hungry. The amount of calories are then turned into necessary nutrients for the families in need.

Maintaining a crowdsourced picture database of more than 44,000 small changes, foodtweeks is able to help users throughout the day as they "tweek" everything from a particular brand of cheeseburger at a national restaurant chain to grocery store purchases, or homemade dishes of any kind.

Not surprisingly, foodtweeks is a product of Walker Health Labs who are designers of surprising commercial solutions that also make a difference for big social problems. Elisa Shannon, foodtweeks Executive Vice President of Partnership Development, best describes the partnership between foodtweeks and FeedMore Food Bank by saying "foodtweeks is proud and excited to support FeedMore Food Bank as it is a highly committed and respected organization that provides outstanding service to food-insecure members of our community."

foodtweeks is rapidly expanding its partner-base to food banks all across the nation, with more joining each week. Ms. Shannon, herself a former food bank executive, encourages food banks that wish to affiliate with foodtweeks to contact her by email at [email protected].

Jay Walker, the inventor of foodtweeks, is also the chairman of Patent Properties and curator of TEDMED, the health and medicine edition of the famous TED conference. A noted entrepreneur, Mr. Walker has founded three companies that serve more than 50 million customers. He is best known as the creator of Priceline, which brought a new level of value to the travel industry.
