Michael J. Woodruff Oversees all Legal Work for the Salvation Army, Western Territory

    LONG BEACH, CA, August 08, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael J. Woodruff, the general counsel for the Salvation Army's Western Territory, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in overseeing all legal work, including real estate transactions and litigation, for the Salvation Army, a California corporation doing business in thirteen Western States, Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands.

Michael J. Woodruff has been a practicing attorney for more than four decades. He specializes in nonprofit organization law, trust and estate law, constitutional law, freedom of religion, corporate law, and church law. He was admitted to practice in California in 1972, U.S. Supreme Court in 1978, and Virginia in 1993. He joined the Salvation Army in 2004 and truly enjoys working with a fantastic team to carry out the organization's mission.

Previously, Mr. Woodruff served as the Acting Executive Director of the Christian Legal Society, Chancellor of The Falls Church in Falls Church, Virginia, Director of the Center for Law & Religious Freedom, as a member of the adjunct faculty of the School of Public Administration at George Mason University, and as a partner in the law firm of Griffith & Thornburgh in Santa Barbara, CA.

Mr. Woodruff is the author of "Lawyers and Sacred Gold," 27 Tex. Tech. L. Rev. 1411, 1996 and the Journal of Law & Religion, Vol. XVI, No. 2. He also co-authored, "Risk Management," 1993. He was named an AV Preeminent Attorney by Martindale-Hubbell earlier this year.

He earned his BA degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1967 and a Juris Doctor from UCLA School of Law in 1972. He is a member of the California Bar Association, Virginia Bar Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the Christian Legal Society. He was a member of the UCLA-Alaska Law Review from 1970 to 1972. He attributes his success to hard work, determination, problem-solving skills, and the grace of God. In the future, upon retirement in late 2014, he plans to do more consulting, speaking and mentoring.
