Veteran DWI Defense Attorney, Jeffrey DeRoberts, Expresses Concern for Large Number of DWI Incidents in Syracuse, NY

Criminal Defense lawyer of DeRoberts Law Firm shares tips to prevent driving under the influence

SYRACUSE, NY, August 17, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Over the last decade, hundreds of lives have been claimed in Onondaga County due to drunk driving. While crash fatalities have dropped significantly in recent years, according to a recent Syracuse.com article, veteran DWI defense attorney Jeffrey DeRoberts, of DeRoberts Law Firm, still finds it important to educate the community about the perils of driving while under the influence.

"Drunk driving remains a very real and serious concern in our society," said DeRoberts. "It is our responsibility as citizens to prevent drinking and driving. There are a number of ways to keep someone who is under the influence from getting behind the wheel."

DeRoberts suggests the following advice:

- Be responsible: If you're intending to imbibe alcohol, be smart about it. Select a designated driver or plan to call a taxi. If you're hosting guests who are drinking, consider arranging alternate transportation or hold onto their keys until they are sober.

- Recognize how to identify drunk driving. According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), there are several signs associated with driving under the influence including, tailgating; making wide turns; weaving, swerving, drifting or straddling the center line; driving on the wrong side of the road; driving at a very slow speed or braking irregularly; responding slowly to traffic signals; and driving after dark with headlights off.

- Report drunk driving. If you detect erratic road behavior, report the car along with its description to the local law enforcement authorities.

For more than 20 years, attorney Jeff DeRoberts has helped defense clients in criminal matters. Attorney DeRoberts delivers innovative criminal defense strategies in both state and federal courts throughout Central New York. DeRoberts represents clients facing alcohol-related offenses, all misdemeanor and felony crimes, and serious traffic violations. He routinely assists clients in Syracuse, Utica, Rome and all of Onondaga County.

"We all try to avoid driving while impaired," DeRoberts remarked, "but there are times where the situation can get away from you, or you have a higher blood alcohol content than you think. In those cases, it's important to seek out a defense attorney who can determine the facts behind the charges and help defend you in court."
