    LAFAYETTE, LA, August 27, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Attorney Richard R. Kennedy has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence during a storied career in maritime personal injury, wrongful death and personal injury law.

Richard R. Kennedy is a fifth generation lawyer with over 40 years of legal experience. He practices maritime personal injury and wrongful death involving offshore and inland drilling and rig accidents in state and federal court. This includes accidents on any type of vessel, as well as helicopter, automobile and commercial truck accidents. He also handles appeals for his clients before the state and federal appellate courts.

Recognized as an unsurpassed personal injury trial attorney, Richard R. Kennedy has won judgments and settlements in the multi-millions of dollars. In 1980, he was certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in Civil Law - the first Louisiana attorney to achieve such a feat. He was named a Top 100 Trial Lawyer by The American Trial Lawyers Association in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Mr. Kennedy is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell, and was included in Martindale-Hubbell's Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers in the practice areas of admiralty/maritime law, personal injury, civil trial practice, and appellate practice.

He was admitted to the Louisiana bar in 1965. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and the U.S. District Courts for the Western, Middle, and Eastern Districts of Louisiana. Since 1990, he has served as a faculty member of Louisiana State University Law School's Trial Advocacy Program and is an invited lecturer at law schools and for bar associations on trial advocacy and maritime personal injury.

Mr. Kennedy received a Bachelor of Arts, Summa Cum Laude, from the University of Southwestern Louisiana at Lafayette in 1962 and a Juris Doctor with honors from Tulane Law School, which he attended on academic scholarship, in 1965. Here, he served on the Moot Court Board and won the law school's Moot Court Competition. His first post upon graduation was as a law clerk for the Honorable Richard J. Putnam of the U.S. District Court, Western District of Louisiana. Judge Putnam had one of the heaviest maritime dockets, which led to Mr. Kennedy's pursuit of a career in maritime law.

Mr. Kennedy is a member of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association, Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit, Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association, Louisiana Bar Association, Maritime Association of the United States, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, American College of Trial Lawyers, American Board of Trial Advocates, American College of Barristers (Senior Counsel), and American Bar Association. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Captain in the Judge Advocate General's Corps.
