NFL Concussion Lawsuit Update - November 19 Fairness Hearing with Judge Brody

Fairness Hearing Brings Plaintiffs Closer to Receiving Settlement Funding; Legal Funding Bridges Gap

SECAUCUS, NJ, November 18, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Atlas Legal Funding announced today that Wednesday's fairness hearing, which will be held in Philadelphia and led by U.S. District Court Judge Anita Brody, will be a landmark day for the NFL concussion lawsuit settlement. The fairness hearing will provide former NFL athletes, their families and their lawyers with an opportunity to appear before the Court to give reasons as to why the proposed NFL concussion settlement is unreasonable, inadequate, unfair or arbitrary. The hearing will determine whether final approval will be given for the NFL concussion settlement to then move onto the next steps - including the claims process and ultimately to distributing settlement money to those that qualify.

Three NFL Lawsuit Settlement Classes Based on Player Diagnosis

Here are the three settlement classes that stand to receive monetary compensation in the NFL Concussion Lawsuit Settlement:

a.) Retired players that have concussion-related symptoms such as depression, mood changes, sleep disorders, etc., who have not been diagnosed with clinical Dementia, Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
b.) Retired players that have been given a diagnosis of Dementia, Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease or ALS.
c.) Players who have died and received confirmation of CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy).

"This fairness hearing is a milestone that brings athletes and their families closer to receiving the settlement funding that they've been waiting for," said Jeff Kahn, Managing Partner of Atlas Legal Funding. "Nevertheless, even if the lawsuit settlement continues to move forward unchanged after the fairness hearing, athletes and their families may have to wait several more months before settlement funding is paid out by the court system."
