You Can't Take Away Your Kid's Smart-phone? Here's DIY Smart Toy 'NAYO'

"NAYO is a living 3D toy my kids makes by themselves."

SEOUL, KOREA, November 21, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Children's smartphone addiction has become a serious social issue. Especially, young preschoolers exposed to various smart devices at an early age worries their parents. As smart devices are potable than other things like TV or PC, it causes the bigger concern.

While smart devices have such negative effects on a society, Base-d viewed them from a different standpoint and made a smart toy which is combination of Augmented Reality app and off-line art education.

Base-d, a startup introduced 'NAYO' (The name comes from abbreviation of a Korean word meaning 'becoming alive'). At first, kids assemble the toy and paint it by themselves. They have fun with watching the character they made in 3D with a smart-phone app, which is not just entertaining, but educational. Augmented Reality(AR) technology shows a video layering a 3D virtual image on a real image or surroundings. This recently is getting spotlights in various fields.

Last September, NAYO Dinosaur Series was rolled out. It comes in 3 kinds; 'Tyrano and Friends', 'Tricera and Friends', and 'Spino and Friends'. Each package has 3 types of self-assembly dinosaur toys. Kids can make 9 different kinds of dinosaurs. Kids can simply check how to assemble them without a paper manual but with their smart-phone app. It's a lot easier for kids to follow the direction. Also, they can explore a virtual world with a self-made dinosaur character, knowing more about dinosaurs playing in various ways.

Yu-jin Lee, the CEO said "NAYO series values the art experience; the process that children assemble and paint the toys with their own hands. So, it's differentiated from other common art-related apps in the market." NAYO has received a favorable evaluation, as it makes good use of interesting characters to hook the children on the play. He added, "Applying Augmented Reality technology newly developed, we can suggest a new and positive way to use smart devices."
According to the result of its user survey, children showed a high interest on digital contents.

Some children who watched the videos on NAYO Dinosaur Series through YouTube or other search engines asked parents to buy it.
