Keep Your Pets Healthy While Enjoying A Busy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is always a fun, yet stressful day, especially if you have animals that are likely to steal a few bites (or the whole turkey!) off the table. Amazing Pet Expos and Banfield Pet Hospital offer tips on how to keep your pet safe and healthy

ST. LOUIS, MO, November 23, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Thanksgiving of 2014 is just around the corner, and with it comes the excitement of homes filled with the smell of food and a ton of family and friends. With so much going on, people should also remember to watch for their beloved furry, feathered, and scaly friends.

Sometimes on such a full day, no matter the traditions, pets can be easily forgotten as they either scatter around the home confused by the amount of people in their territory or walk around directly under foot, excited about all of the new things happening around them. On top of all of changes happening at home, there are so many different foods on the menu, that a precious animal companion could accidentally eat something harmful for them.

"As a company that spends its entire year concentrated on the welfare of animals across the country, we felt it was necessary to find a way help," says Patti Welch, Vice President of Amazing Pet Expos. "We knew we had to contact Banfield Pet Hospital for some help with spreading the word about Pet Safety during Thanksgiving."

Banfield Pet Hospital offered Amazing Pet Expos the following tips to share among their attendees, exhibitors, and staff members:

• Before the holidays begin, be sure all pets have well-fitting collars with current ID tags in case they accidently get out. Remember to keep an eye on the entrances and exits of your home in order to keep your pets from escaping.

• Don't feed your pet leftovers. Fatty leftovers (such as meat drippings or meat bones) can cause internal injury, upset stomachs, diarrhea or vomiting.

• Bones are bad. Although bones from our holiday birds look good to pets, they are dangerous and can cause intestinal upset and may even splinter once digested.

• Make sure pets have a quiet, comfortable place with food and water where they can relax.

Pet-lovers should also remember to check out their local Banfield Pet Hospital for more information about these tips: http://www.banfield.com
