Christmas 2014 in London

The best panto shows, concerts and Christmas events in London this year

LONDON, ENGLAND, December 10, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Christmas is coming and the fairy lights are up all over London. December is the perfect time to come to the capital for festive shopping, Panto and other London events from ice skating in the great courtyard of Somerset House to Christmas markets along the South Bank and around town.

The top family Christmas shows include Raymond Briggs' Father Christmas which returns to the Lyric for Christmas 2014. Drawing on the Cinderella story, 'Cindermouse' is at the Little Angel Theatre and The Unicorn theatre stages three Christmas shows this year: The Nutcracker and The Mouse King (for children aged 8 and above), The Fourth Wise Man (ages 4 and above), and Scrunch for the smallest theatre goers, aged 6 to 18 months.

If you want a traditional Christmas pantomime with all the trimmings book in to see 'Mother Goose' at Hackney Empire. Rivalling Hackney for the Panto crown, Linda Gray of Dallas fame and king of the one-liners Tim Vine, and Matthew Kelly star in 'Cinderella' at the New Wimbledon Theatre, and Jerry Hall plays the evil stepmother in her first panto role in 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' at Richmond Theatre.

For a reminder of what Christmas is traditionally all about there are some wonderful Christmas Carol concerts with sing-a-long sessions at the Royal Albert Hall where Anton & Erin's Christmas Cracker adds dance to the music and song. On Wednesday 17th December 2014 the Wintershall Nativity reenacts the story of Mary and Joseph with a cast of over 50 people including a choir as well as real sheep and donkeys outside BBC Broadcasting House.

The iconic St Paul's Cathedral also hosts an extensive series of concerts, including the ever popular Midnight Mass. It's best to book in for the free Services of Lessons & Carols at Westminster Abbey on 23rd December and Christmas Eve which are especially popular.

Santa has landed on the North East side of Covent Garden Piazza, pulled along by 9 reindeer, with Rudolph leading the charge, and they're all made out of LEGO! There's a Christmas tree maze on the South Bank and 14 'Frozen Trees' at East Village, the former Athletes' Village of the 2012 London Olympics.

The hugely popular Winter Wonderland returns to Hyde Park bringing a ferris wheel, ice rink, Santa's grotto, fairground rides and market with it. And this year, for the first time, east London gets its own version of Winter Wonderland with Winterville in Victoria Park. The fair includes Robin Hood in the heated Spiegeltent and food stalls by Venn Street Market which relocates from Clapham.

New for 2014 is Grotto Outre at the Red Gallery in Rivington Street which presents a themed event for each night of the week until 21st December. Weekdays are relatively muted, with a movie night, festive bingo and a quiz, while at the weekend things are taken up a gear with the UK's freshest DJs and clothes swapping every time the jingle bells chime.
