David W. Brandes, MS, MD, FAAN, is an MS Certified Specialist by the Consortium of MS Centers and has been voted a Top Doctor in the United States since 2000.

    KNOXVILLE, TN, December 15, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David W. Brandes, MS, MD, FAAN, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in neurology, with special focus on multiple sclerosis. He practices at Hope Neurology/MS Center in Knoxville, TN, with a focus on neurological disorders, particularly multiple sclerosis and sleep disorders. The facility offers advanced treatment options to local patients. He is also medical director of Rest Analysis/National Sleep Center in Southern California.

Dr. Brandes has 37 years of private practice experience in the medical field, including the past six years at Hope Neurology/MS Center. In addition to general neurological disorders, Dr. Brandes specifically focuses on treating multiple sclerosis and sleep disorders. Prior to Hope Neurology/MS Center, he practiced in Southern California, including as Medical Director of the Northridge MS Center (the first private MS Center in the United States), as well as Medical Director of the Northridge Hospital Sleep Evaluation Center and also the Medical Director of Rest Analysis. He has also participated in a variety of research projects, including immunosuppressive/immunomodulatory treatments, beta-interferon titration studies, medication adherence and cerebrospinal fluid analysis in multiple sclerosis, as well as research in stroke, Huntington's disease, neuropathic pain, sleep disorders and other neurological conditions. In addition to providing patient care and performing research activity, Dr. Brandes also gives many presentations on multiple sclerosis to national and international audiences, where he educates both healthcare providers and patients.

Dedicated to his work in the medical field, Dr. Brandes became involved in this profession beginning with his Master's Degree in biochemistry. He became fascinated by the biological chemistry of the brain and its disorders, so he decided to leave the world of research biochemistry to pursue his research and patient care career in neurology.

Dr. Brandes received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Knox College, with a specialty in chemistry. He then earned his Master's Degree in biochemistry from UCLA. Following this he received his medical education at UCLA Medical Center. During his time at UCLA, he received training in multiple sclerosis in the first MS Fellowship in the United States. He was also elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. He is an MS Certified Specialist by the Consortium of MS Centers and has been voted a Top Doctor in the United States since 2000.

He was recently inducted into the Worldwide Registry and also maintains affiliations with the American Academy of Neurology, the Stroke Council of the American Heart Association, and the Mid-South Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. In his spare time, Dr. Brandes enjoys skiing and snowboarding. In the coming years, Dr. Brandes will continue to provide neurological care for patients, conduct medical research and speak on multiple sclerosis.
