TITUS First to Provide Classification Capabilities for OWA 2013

TITUS releases the very first product on the market that has the ability to provide data classification capabilities to Microsoft Outlook Web App (OWA) 2013.

OTTAWA, ON, December 20, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- TITUS continues to prove itself as the leader in data classification and governance solutions with the release of the very first product on the market that has the ability to provide data classification capabilities to Microsoft Outlook Web App (OWA) 2013. The latest release of TITUS Message Classification for Microsoft OWA includes patent-pending technology that will ensure our customers, including the Government of Canada, have the most up-to-date and complete classification solution available.

Users accessing their email through OWA 2013 will have the same experience as their desktop counterparts when classifying emails or calendar items. TITUS Classification for OWA prompts users to identify the business value of the email or meeting requests they are sending without disturbing their normal workflow. Policy tips educate and guide users into making the correct decisions so that information is not accidentally lost. Recipients of messages sent from OWA 2013 will clearly see the classification in the subject line and can review handling instructions in the email body to ensure they know how to keep the information safe.

Since Microsoft OWA 2013 is designed to provide access to corporate email through a common web browser, employees can use virtually any computer to check-in with the office. While convenient, web access poses a unique security risk as users may access sensitive corporate email and attachments using unsecured public Wi-Fi or a public computer. For this reason, TITUS has included policies that block access to specific information through OWA 2013. For instance, a security policy can be configured to prevent OWA users from accessing emails with specific, high-sensitivity classifications. Another policy could be configured to prevent access to all emails and calendar items that contain attachments, thereby preventing these sensitive files from being exposed to unsecured Wi-Fi or downloaded onto a public device.

With OWA 2013, Microsoft has added event logging features that allow administrators to track user activity. TITUS Classification for OWA writes classification related events to these logs which an administrator can use to monitor the frequency of policy violations, such as the number of times a user has attempted to send a message to an unauthorized recipient or the frequency of message classification downgrades. Over time, the log data could reveal trends and help identify problem areas or users who are repeatedly making policy errors.

Increasingly, experts and organizations are recognizing the need to classify data in order to keep it safe. Now you can help your users to identify their most sensitive email, even in OWA, so that you can focus your defenses on the data that needs it most.
