Annual Meeting to Focus on Local Economic Development and Beyond

John Chiang, State Treasurer elect, is keynote speaker for EDC-VC's annual meeting.

CAMARILLO, CA, January 02, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- While Ventura County has a comprehensive economic plan for the next five years, it's impacted by what's happening at the state level. The Economic Development Collaborative-Ventura County will explore the connection with "Economic Development: A Larger Conversation" at its 18th Annual Meeting from 3-7 p.m., Jan. 15 at Spanish Hills Country Club, 999 Crestview Ave., Camarillo. As keynote speaker, John Chiang, State Treasurer elect*, will share his insights on the California economy, its strengths, weaknesses and opportunities and the possible impact on Ventura County. (*Note: John Chiang will be sworn in as State Treasurer on Jan. 5, 2015.)

Elected Controller of the State of California in 2006, Chiang made the state's finances more transparent and accountable to the public, and worked to reduce waste, fraud and abuse of public funds. He was elected to a second term in 2010.

"Since taking office as State Controller, John Chiang has led efforts at the statewide level that have benefited our county's economic vitality. He's keenly aware of the ripple effect from the state to its 58 counties on down to the residents," said Bruce Stenslie, EDC-VC president/CEO. "Having him at our annual meeting will be an excellent way for area business owners to see the broader picture of economic development and how it can help their business."

Chiang has led efforts to reform the state's public pension systems, helped local governments navigate difficult economic times, protected California's natural resources, reunited owners with $3.1 billion in unclaimed cash and more than 235 million shares of stocks and securities that had been lost or forgotten, and launched financial and tax assistance seminars for California's working families, seniors, small businesses and nonprofit organizations.

Cost to attend the EDC-VC Annual Meeting is $75, and dinner is included. For reservations or information, call 805-384-1800, ext. 21.
