Dr. John Rothrock Named One of America's Top Doctors of 2014

For three decades, Dr. Rothrock has made significant contributions to research involving intracerebral disorders



Dr. Rothrock joined the neurosciences faculty at the University of California, San Diego, where he established and directed the UCSD Stroke Center and, subsequently, the UCSD Headache Center.

    RENO, NV, January 14, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John Rothrock, director of the Renown Institute for the Neurosciences and chair of neurology at the University of Nevada (Reno) School of Medicine, has been recognized for his leadership and excellence in the field of neurology by having been named one of America's Top Doctors every year since 2004.

A physician for more than 35 years, Dr. Rothrock has dedicated his career to treating patients, teaching and performing clinical research. He is acknowledged as an expert in the subspecialty areas of cerebrovascular disease (stroke) and headache medicine. His presence in northern Nevada enables the citizens of that region to receive expert neurologic care without the need to travel long distances.

Dr. Rothrock earned his MD from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his internship and a residency in neurology at the University of Arizona. Early in his academic career, Dr. Rothrock joined the neurosciences faculty at the University of California, San Diego, where he established and directed the UCSD Stroke Center and, subsequently, the UCSD Headache Center. Thereafter, he went on to serve as chair of neurology and associate dean for clinical research at the University of South Alabama and, subsequently, as vice-chair of neurology at the University of Alabama (Birmingham).

Dr. Rothrock is an active member of the American Stroke Association, the American Headache Society and the American Academy of Neurology.

In the years to come, Dr. Rothrock intends to focus on educating physician trainees and advanced care practitioners (physician assistants and nurse practitioners) and to continue participating in research intended to improve patient management and clinical outcome while reducing medical costs.
