/24-7PressRelease/ -- 3Com Corporation, a leading provider of secure converged networking (SCN) solutions for enterprises of all sizes, today announced that TOT, Thailand's largest telecommunications company, has chosen 3Com solutions to provide the network communications infrastructure at the Bangkok Government Center, a brand new mega-project of the Thai government. 3Com has been awarded a major portion of the 323 million Thai Baht (USD9.6 million) tender with the 40,000 LAN-port network scheduled to be installed during the next few months, making it one of the largest deployments of its kind in the region.
The project involves the extensive deployment of 3Com SCN solutions including the Switch 5500-EI family of stackable Gigabit switches and the Switch 9500 series of 10-Gigabit multi-service core routing switches from 3Com's China-based H3C operation. Intrusion prevention systems (IPS) and network access control (NAC) solutions from 3Com's TippingPoint division are also being deployed in addition to a Secpath firewall system from 3Com-H3C that integrates firewall, denial-of-service (DoS) protection, VPN and traffic management capabilities.
"3Com won the deal because our solutions offer two to three times the switching performance at a 30 to 40 percent lower price point than our biggest competitor," commented Peter Chai, Vice President and General Manager, 3Com Asia Pacific. "Moreover, 3Com's switches support the integration of open source applications into the network fabric which gives TOT flexibility to add new services to the network when needed."
This combination of leading 3Com products supports both voice and data convergence applications and includes a comprehensive security system. Once installed, the network will connect several different buildings within the complex, covering a total area of 929,800 square meters and servicing 30,000 employees in 33 departments.
Initiated by the Thai Ministry of Finance in 2003, the Bangkok Government Center project was designed to house 28 government agencies and has been developed in a modern style to provide superior energy efficiency and quality of life for government employees. As such, the resulting office is set to provide its governmental tenants with one of the most modern and energy-efficient working areas available in Thailand today.
