New Imprint Bridges the Language Gap and Changes the Way We Buy Books

Geography can limit a book's reach; Imajin Books is changing that for authors

"There are over 30 million Germans in the US alone. That's a heck of a demographic to ignore."

EDMONTON, AB, January 28, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In a globalized world, e-books continue to make sense for an increasingly mobile reading public. And given the tremendous diversity of North American populations, you would think it would just make sense for online retailers/distributors like Amazon or Kobo to make a multitude of foreign language books available to their customers. But the reality is, they can't always do so--and both readers and authors suffer as a result.

Enter Luzifer-Imajin Books, an innovative new publishing imprint co-conceived by Imajin Books publisher and bestselling author Cheryl Kaye Tardif and German publisher Steffen Janssen from Luzifer-Verlag. Tardif became aware of a major gap in Amazon's platform after granting the German rights for her thriller, The River, to publisher Luzifer-Verlag. The German language version of the book, Wilder Fluss, was inaccessible to readers in North America due to Germany's geographical restrictions for retailers such as Amazon.

"Online book retailers seem to assume that people in North America aren't going to read foreign language books, so their systems--plus government restrictions--make it very challenging for European publishers to sell to anyone outside their own country," says Tardif, the author of 14+ books and founder of Imajin Books. "Of course, that's a completely inaccurate representation of the reading landscape in a globalized world!"

Their innovative solution was to create an imprint of Tardif's own publishing house called Luzifer-Imajin Books, which will now be publishing German language e-book titles for a North American audience. It's an approach that makes a lot of sense to Tardif. "They say the 'devil's in the details,' but one detail that is often overlooked is that there are over 30 million Germans in the US alone. That's a heck of a demographic to ignore."
