Nissan, NBC & Adam Levine Urge Drivers To Stop Texting and Driving with 'Red Thumb Day'

Drivers are encouraged to mark their thumbs red as a reminder to put their phone down.



    TAMPA, FL, February 25, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Based on statistics from the U.S. Department of Transportation, cellphones are involved in 1.6 million auto crashes each year. (1) Nissan is taking action to reduce fatalities and has partnered with NBC and Adam Levine to promote "Red Thumb Day," a reminder to stop texting while driving. (2)

As a result of this critical issue, Ferman Nissan of Tampa is pleased to share the news that Nissan, NBC Universal and Maroon 5 front-man Adam Levine are working together to raise awareness of the matter (1) by promoting Red Thumb Day, a concept inspired by the "Red Thumb Reminder" program created by Steve Babcock of EVB advertising. (2)

In an online video entitled "Nissan #RedThumb with Adam Levine," the singer encourages drivers to mark their thumbs red as a visual reminder not to text and drive. Those that support the cause can also get a Red Thumb reminder band at Nissan dealerships nationwide. (1)

According to the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, 25 percent of teenagers will respond to a text message one or more times every time they drive. In addition, 10 percent of parents admit to having multi-message text conversations while driving. (2)

The Red Thumb movement is meant to encourage people to put their phone down when behind the wheel, not just for one day, but every day, (1) so that they can get where they are going safely. (2)

Drivers can also join the Red Thumb movement by sharing photos tagged #RedThumb via social media channels. (2)
