DENVER, CO, February 23, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The TMJ Therapy and Sleep Center of Colorado is introducing a new iCAT cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanner to improve diagnosis and treatment of TMJ and sleep apnea. The iCAT brings an important objective measurement capability, advanced treatment software, and flexible imaging so that patients can get better results and experience.

The iCAT is capable of obtaining 3D images of the teeth and jaws, including the temporomandibular joint. This gives verifiable evidence of the position and condition of the hard and soft tissue of the temporomandibular joint, confirming the presence of TMJ, and its degree. The iCAT is also capable of analyzing the size and shape of the airway to help determine the cause of snoring and sleep apnea. It can also look at sinuses and nasal passages.

But the iCAT is more than a diagnostic tool. It has powerful software that can help design treatment options. It can help with orthodontics, bite splints, and more.

The flexible imaging of the iCAT allows for precise imaging of necessary treatment areas in a way consistent with the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) exposure principle.

"Without proper imaging," said Dr. Kevin Berry, "TMJ treatment isn't very precise. Better imaging means we don't have to guess at the status of the temporomandibular joint, we know."

Dr. Berry added, "Having out own cone beam CT means we don't have to send out patients elsewhere. This makes it more convenient for our patients and eliminates the risk of communication errors."

Patients who want to learn more about the benefits of iCAT for TMJ and sleep apnea should call (303) 691-0307 or email the TMJ Therapy and Sleep Center of Colorado.
