Patrick Nathan Recognized by Worldwide Branding for Excellence in Corporate Marketing

    SINGAPORE, February 21, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Patrick Nathan, VP of Corporate Information and Communications for SMRT Corporation Ltd., has been recognized by Worldwide Branding for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in corporate marketing.

With more than 30 years of professional experience under his belt, Mr. Nathan shines as a luminary in his field, bringing forth a wealth of knowledge and experience to SMRT Corporation Ltd., a leading multimodal public transport operator in Singapore that employs 8,200 employees and supports three million commuter journeys daily. He is responsible for overseeing 11 teams working in the Corporate Information and Communications Group, which comprises the Corporate Marketing & Comms Department, the Passenger Service Department, and the Info Fusion Centre. His areas of expertise include internal communications, community engagement, corporate social responsibility, marketing, branding, social media engagement, crisis communications, customer relations, service quality, and data fusion and analysis.

Mr. Nathan first joined SMRT as Director of Security and Emergency Planning in 2011, where he was responsible for security operations, emergency planning and crisis management at SMRT. He introduced major changes in relation to the full spectrum of security management functions, including training, audit, business continuity and capability development. He led a wide-ranging and fundamental review of the Company's Incident Management Plans, and initiated a realignment of processes with the Regulator for both transport disruptions and security incidents.
He is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering. He began this assignment in April 2014 and his areas for article reviews include Security, Emergency Planning, Incident and Crisis Management, Corporate Marketing and Communications, Passenger Services, and Information Fusion. He is also on the Advisory Council for the Red (Team) Analysis Society, which is a think tank devoted to strategic foresight and warning (SF&W), anticipatory intelligence and risk management for national and international security issues. He recently concluded his responsibilities as a member of the Advisory Board that provided external guidance to a European Commission Project on Securing Urban Transportation (called SECUR-ED). He was one of two non-Europeans on the Advisory Board. The project was launched in April 2011 and was completed in September 2014. He was also a member of the Security Commission of the International Association of Public Transport.

He has spoken at a number of international meetings. His more recent speaking engagements include the following: As part of the SECUR-ED project's mid-term conference in Geneva on May 30, 2013, Mr. Nathan was invited to be part of a panel discussing the Training, Preparedness and Coordination needed for Public Transport Security. He attended the American Public Transport Association's Rail Conference in Philadelphia from June 2-5, 2013, where he delivered a presentation on Lessons Learned for Crisis Management. He also spoke on Lessons Learned from Security and Crisis Management at the Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition on Oct 7, 2013, at a plenary session on Emergency Preparedness, Safety & Security in Transport. Mr. Nathan spoke on Delays, Disruptions and Crises: Getting Communications Right at the 4th Modern Railways Conference in Bali on August 21, 2014. As part of the SECUR-ED project's final conference in Brussels on September 17, 2014, he was invited to be part of a panel discussing SECUR-ED Tools for Training and Stakeholder Cooperation.

Before joining SMRT, Mr. Nathan served with Singapore's Ministry of Defence and the National Security Coordination Centre at the Prime Minister's Office. He has accumulated 30 years of experience in the areas of military intelligence, national security policy, and risk assessment and horizon scanning. He served in the National Security Coordination Centre from 2002 until 2011 as its Deputy Director. Among his principal contributions, he helped set up the Centre and oversaw the Strategic Policy Development Group. He was one of two principal authors of the Strategic Framework for Singapore's National Security. He also led the Risk Assessment and Horizon Scanning (RAHS) Group and established Singapore's first Horizon Scanning Centre, an open source environmental scanning and information fusion center, which also supports Singapore government agencies in futures projects. Connected to this, he set up the RAHS Experimentation Centre and helped pioneer an integrated suite of software tools under the RAHS brand name. He led the effort to establish a Centre of Excellence for National Security at the Rajaratnam School of International Studies. Additionally, Mr. Nathan spoke at a number of international conferences, such as those organized by the Global Futures Forum and International Risk Governance Council.

Reflecting on a rich and rewarding career, Mr. Nathan attributes his success to his curiosity, passion, commitment and vision. He retired as a Colonel from the Singapore Armed Forces. During his time with the Forces, he received training awards to pursue undergraduate and graduate studies. Mr. Nathan holds an Honors degree in Political Science from the National University of Singapore. He also holds a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the Nanyang Technological University, where he received an OUB Gold Medal for Academic Excellence. In the coming years, Mr. Nathan will continue to explore opportunities where he can help pioneer new frameworks, structures and processes, or help reconstitute systems that are no longer effective. He also welcomes prospects to widen and deepen his experiences. In short, he looks forward to his next challenge.
