Photographer Daniel Jack Lyons Turns his Lens on Excluded Populations

Who - World-renowned photographer Daniel Jack Lyons (www.danieljacklyons.com) upcoming exhibition is collaboration with HealthRight International (www.healthright.org). Last year Lyons traveled to remote areas in Kenya, Ukraine, Nepal, and USA to document and celebrate members of these excluded communities that have been isolated by disease and discrimination. Lyons reveals something unique about each subject and their triumph with his strong engaging portraits. "I'm ultimately in the business of storytelling," Lyons explains "my work takes me to places off the beaten path to meet remarkable individuals. My goal is to capture the people and places that I encounter through an honest and nuanced lens." The individuals in his photographs have risen above their circumstances with the support of HealthRight International, who provides access to health services for excluded populations around the world.

Young mother, Salina Kangogo traveled 150 kilometers to the maternity waiting home at the Ortum Mission Hospital built by HealthRight despite superstitious rumors from her friends. She was experiencing distressing symptoms during her second pregnancy and shortly after arriving, she went into early labor and doctors discovered that the baby was breach. They moved quickly to deliver the baby through Caesarian section and Salina gave birth to a healthy daughter named Lineth.

The exhibit will feature limited edition large-scale prints (48" x72") for live auction. All proceeds will benefit Health Rights worldwide programs. Bidding will start at $1200.
