Worldwide Who's Who Names Cindy Barton Professional of the Year in Law

Cindy Barton helps her clients have a voice in the juvenile court and to act in the best interest of the children

As Guardian ad Litem, Ms. Barton is appointed to represent children as they come into contact with the Juvenile Court system.

VERNAL, UT, March 05, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cindy Barton, Guardian Ad Litem in the Eighth District Court in the State of Utah has been named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year in Law. While inclusion in Worldwide Who's Who is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Who's Who membership.

As Guardian ad Litem, Ms. Barton is appointed to represent children as they come into contact with the Juvenile Court system. She is charged with protecting their legal rights, giving them a voice in the system and acting in the best interest of children in all matters. To that end, she is responsible for up to 250 children at a time that have been referred to Juvenile Court for neglect, abuse or delinquency. Even with this caseload, she takes time and is charged with knowing each of her clients personally so she can understand their needs and wants. She works with the Division of Children and Families to create family plans that protect against further abuse or neglect and try to keep families together. When parents are unable or unwilling to make the necessary changes to keep their children, she is charged with finding the best permanent placement for the child. Ms. Barton has been a Guardian ad Litem since August, 2012.

Prior to her appointment to be Guardian, Ms. Barton owned her own law practice from 1993 to 2012 that specialized in criminal defense, parental defense and estates. In 2007, Ms. Barton won an historic appeal of U.S. v. Hardman at the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. This case insured Mr. Hardman, a non-native American the right to worship in the Native American religion and possess eagle feathers. She was an associate with Las Vegas law firm Bell and Young from 1990 to 1994. She attributes her success to the fact that she cares about people and tries to help them. She also credits her parents, who taught her the value of hard work. She became involved in her profession because she enjoys and excels at speaking in front of people; as a student she was always involved in debate and drama clubs. She wanted to help people and saw working as a lawyer as an extension of that.

Ms. Barton received a JD from the S.J. Quinney Law School at the University of Utah in 1989. She has been a member of Better Business Bureau and is an ongoing member of Southern Poverty Law Center. The plight of women and girls in the world is a large concern to her and she is working to find solutions to the poverty that keeps nearly one half of the world's citizens from safe, fulfilling lives. Ms. Barton is working with foundations to do micro loans to women in developing countries and provide education opportunities to girls in these countries. She is writing books about the experiences of her pioneer ancestors, and the lessons that can be learned from them and hopes to do missionary work for her church.
