Moro Salifu, MD, MPH, MBA, Honored for a Successful Medical Career

Dr. Salifu followed his interest and became involved in the field of nephrology



    BROOKLYN, NY, April 01, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Moro Salifu, Chairman of the Department of Medicine, Chief of the Division of Nephrology and Director of the Kidney Transplant Program at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in nephrology.

Dr. Salifu brings 15 years of experience to his role as a physician, chief of the division of nephrology, and director of the kidney transplant program at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Throughout the years, he has set himself apart through his skill in chronic kidney disease, as well as transplants and vascular access. Each day, he conducts renal transplants and dialysis outcomes research, in addition to his work with patients.

After fellowship training, Dr. Salifu was retained by SUNY Downstate as assistant professor in 2001. He rapidly rose through the ranks to associate professor and professor within seven years, a milestone that is credited to his outstanding original research contributions, clinical acumen and medical education. He has directed the nephrology fellowship training program since 2001, and in 2008, assumed the roles of chief of nephrology and director of the transplant program, positions that were crucial to the restructuring of the kidney dialysis and transplant programs at Downstate. In 2013, he was appointed Chairman of the Department of Medicine overseeing its research, education and clinical mission of the College of Medicine and the University. He is a recipient of many grants and has published extensively. Dr. Salifu is a member and journal reviewer for many nephrology and transplant societies and has served in many local and national professional committees. He is also a fellow of the American College of Physicians. His research interests include CKD disease progression, vascular biology and kidney transplant outcomes.

Dr. Salifu completed a fellowship in nephrology from SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn in 2000, a residency in internal medicine at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn in 1998 and an internship from SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He earned an MD from Dokuz Eylul University, a Master of Public Health from SUNY Downstate Medical Center and an MBA from George Washington University. He was recently inducted into Worldwide Registry and also maintains affiliation with The New York Society of Nephrology, the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology. To recognize him for excellence, he was presented with numerous Top Doctor Awards in Nephrology in the New York Metro Area by Castle Connolly from 2009-2014. In years to come, Dr. Salifu intends to continue to serve and distinguish himself as a stunning educator, researcher and clinician.
