ADVOCATES PRO TOUR Launches: Conversation with a Legend

Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar and gbelts sign on as official partners

LOS ANGELES, CA, April 07, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Advocates Pro Tour (APT) is a non-profit 501(c)3 Organization that aims to get more African Americans and other minorities onto the PGA Tour. Today, APT announces the launch of its "Conversation with a Legend" mentor series. The first installment, moderated by sports anchor Michael Eaves, will take place Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 9:30 to 11am at Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar in Baldwin Hills and feature LA Lakers Head Coach, Byron Scott.

The Advocates Pro Tour started in 2010 as a way to bring greater diversity to the game of golf by developing African Americans and other minorities for careers in golf. Thus far APT has sponsored 12 events in its first four years, with over $200,000 in prize money. Continuing to develop the program, 2015 brings a schedule of 5 events with over $100,000 in prize money (The first event was held March 14-15 in Tampa, Florida. Remaining events will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, Pensacola, Florida, New Orleans, Louisiana and Los Angeles, California.) and the goal of expanding the program to include 10 events by 2018.

Always striving to take the program to another level, APT has expanded their focus to bring diversity to opportunities off the links through developing a database of qualified African Americans and other minorities who want to work in the golf industry. This database will be accessed by golf companies and associations when job openings arise. From golf manufacturers and product developers to golf pros and associations, the possibilities are endless. In an effort to continue this progress all major APT events will also include job fairs and mentoring sessions. Cue, Conversations with a Legend.

Advocates Pro Tour kicks off its newest mentorship program, Conversations with a Legend with Byron Scott, Head Coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. This new 4-part series will feature an in-depth conversation with a new legendary professional athlete with a passion for golf, every few months with event proceeds going to the APT prize money fund. Covering how they got their start, obstacles they have faced, successes and much more these conversations are intended to give a complete look at the "road to success," as it is rarely a straight shot or an easy journey.

As all of us are interested in developing the next generation of golf professionals, our events will feature top African American high school and college golfers. APT will also partner with the First Tee in areas where we hold our events and APT players will not only conduct clinics but also serve as mentors for the young people. Our aspirational goal is to make the game we love look like America.

Complimentary brunch and venue location, Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar, will be provided by Advocates Pro Tour Board Member, Edward Barnett. Golf hats for attendees to be provided by Roderick McDaniel, founder of gbelts, a Southern California-based apparel company geared toward the active, style-conscious person.
