Rotary International to Charter New Club for Central Florida Chinese Community

Rotary International President from Taiwan Republic of China to pin the charter members of a new central Florida club on June 11, 2015.



    ORLANDO, FL, May 24, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rotary International President Gary C.K. Huang, Taiwan Republic of China, will be pinning the charter members of the Rotary Club of Orlando Dragons on June 11, 2015. Rotary District 6980 Governor Jo Weber will assist Huang in inducting the members of the Chinese speaking club into the five county central Florida district.

The Charter Night for the Orlando Dragons will be held at Buena Vista Palace along with the District 6980 Awards and Guards Night. The annual Awards and Guards ceremony will include the induction of the 2015-2016 District Governor A.J. Range, University of Central Florida, and his team and the incoming presidents of the 47 local clubs.

"The Rotary Club of Orlando Dragons will allow members of the Chinese community to provide Service Above Self in the comfort of meetings mostly conducted in their Mandarin Chinese language," according to club president Rachel Siu, CPA. "When we have English-only speaking guests we will speak in English and translate as needed."

Huang is president for the organization of 34,823 Rotary Clubs with more than 1,207,000 members in 206 countries and regions, according to Huang and the June 2015 The Rotarian Magazine. The District consists of clubs serving Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake, and Sumter counties with almost 2,000 members.

Rotarians are local community, educational, and business leaders who believe in the motto Service Above Self. Rotarians have a great impact in their local communities and the world at-large. Rotary changes millions of lives annually by nearly eliminating polio, providing relief for natural and man-made disasters, teaching self-empowerment, and helping the homeless and disabled. The US Census Bureau listed the Chinese population in 2010 as over 4,010,000.

One charter member of the Rotary Club of Orlando Dragons is Bo-Yu Paul Lao. He is a commissioner of the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission Taiwan, R.O.C. Additionally, Lao owns Lucy Ho's Taiwanese restaurant in Leesburg, FL, USA at the intersection of State Road 441 and Highway 27. Attending the Charter Night from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami will be Director General and Rotarian Philip T.Y. Wang.

Rotary International clubs focus their efforts in six areas: promoting peace, preventing diseases, providing access to clean water and sanitation, enhancing maternal and child health, improving basic education and literacy, and helping communities develop (www.Rotary.Org).
