Millar & Mixon Awards $3,500 in College Scholarships to Winners of Contest to Raise Awareness of Dangers of Underage Drinking

    ATLANTA, GA, June 15, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Atlanta accident attorneys at Millar & Mixon LLC are pleased to announce the winners of our 1st Annual Scholarship Contest promoting awareness of the dangers of underage drinking.

Millar & Mixon awarded a total of $3,500 in scholarships to two Georgia high school seniors who produced original video announcements communicating to fellow students the serious consequences of underage drinking.

The First Place Winner is Grace McHan from Forsyth Central High, Cumming, GA, who received a $2,000 scholarship for her powerful, slickly produced video about a young man fatally injured in an accident caused by underage drinking imagining the life he might have enjoyed, as the grim reaper summons him. McHan also received a $500 award as the Social Voting winner whose video garnered the highest number of social votes. She had 160 first place votes. She plans to attend the University of North Georgia.

The Second Place Winner is Corey Greer from Clarke Central High School, Athens, GA, who received a $1,000 scholarship. He is going to Fort Valley State University.

Car crashes are the leading cause of death among teens, and about a quarter of those crashes involve an underage drinking driver, according to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the advocacy group.

"We were very impressed by the creativity shown in these videos, and we're pleased to provide scholarships to help these young people further their educations," Millar said. "Teens often will listen to people their own age so we think public service messages created by students are an effective means of communication."
