INTERVIEW: Ventas Central's Director Answers Questions on His Recent Speaking Engagement

After having recently spoken at an important leadership event in Manchester on the topic of Observations, Ventas Central's Managing Director, Josh Peace has offered his top tips on how to get into public speaking and be picked at these events.

LONDON, ENGLAND, June 19, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Whilst speaking to the Managing Director of Ventas Central, he revealed these key facts about the topic of observations and speaking at events:

About Ventas Central: http://www.ventascentral.com/

What does the topic of Observations cover?

"When interviewing for new candidates, as a business we often offer an 'observation day'. This process allows the candidate to see the work we carry out for our clients, they are able to understand more about how we operate as a company, how effective the campaigns are, and of course it also is great for us to see if the individual be a suitable fit.

It's a great way for budding entrepreneurs participating in our business development program to build their leadership skills. They will oversee this day and offer feedback to the company owner.

This topic is to help people new to the industry, just like I used to be, improve at handling these observation days. They are supposed to be professionally conducted, informative for both sides and fun. For it to be all those things though people need advice and guidance in this area and this was why I was asked to speak on this topic."

What experience do you have in this topic?

"It's something that I really enjoyed doing when I was new to the industry and things that you enjoy more you notoriously put more effort into. So I put a lot of emphasis on getting good at handling these 'observation' days and introducing brand-new people to the industry in a way that was fun but also informative for them. When you are introducing people to new ideas or new concepts it's often useful to use things that they already understand to help them relate to the new thing they're trying to get their head around. It can help speed up their understanding of the new concept or idea. I got passionate about this and gained plenty of experience in it during my time in the industry. It is now great to pass that experience back to others."

Do you enjoy speaking at these events?

"I absolutely love public speaking now, but I didn't at first. It was something that was so tough for me when I was brand-new to it, I found it almost scary. It was always something that I wanted to get good at as I knew it would be a huge benefit to my career. So with practice and watching others who were considerably more confident than I was I have shown improvement and I now enjoy regularly public speaking to medium-large groups. I love the feeling of making a difference to a group of people using experiences I've had. When someone approaches you after and says "That was great, it really helped" or "I could really relate to that" or something similar, it's such a great feeling, really fulfilling."

Why do you think you were chosen to speak at the event?

"That's a tough question and I guess better directed at the people who invited me. When I host these events and pick speakers to make a difference to the audience I will look for someone who is specialist in that area and has great results themselves. I am a huge believer in listening to those who have the results you want. Normally those who have the results you are looking for are in the minority so you have to go hunt them down and motivate them to spend time with you over others. I would also look for someone that can bring a fresh perspective and fresh ideas to a certain topic."

What is your favourite aspect of attending these events?

"There are two things I really enjoy. Firstly, just being around so many people who are chasing their own goals and dreams and trying to improve and get better. Most people are scared to attack new challenges or try and learn new things just through sheer fear of failure. So being around those people and watching them learn is exciting in itself, it's infectious.

It's also quite a surreal feeling attending these events now. I remember attending my first conference, being a new entrepreneur trying to learn the industry and just thinking I could never do what the speakers are doing. They were so confident and so knowledgeable about everything they were talking about. I just felt so far from where they were at as a business person but also as an individual with how confident and comfortable they were just being themselves in front of large audiences. So now going back and being one of those people that I previously looked up to and admired just feels so surreal. I often have to you double check myself when I'm speaking and think how did this happen? It just seems like yesterday I was sitting watching very similar events with the mind-set that I would never be up there. That is a great feeling and definitely my favourite part of attending these events now."
