Keep Young Minds Active with Half Price Books "Feed Your Brain" Summer Reading Program

Half Price Books' "Feed Your Brain" Summer Initiative Helps Kids Retain Knowledge During Summer Months

"Taking a few minutes out of their day to read can help kids better retain the information they learned during school."

DALLAS, TX, July 03, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Another school year has come and gone, but it's important to preserve the valuable knowledge learned in the classroom. More than two months learning loss can occur when kids do not engage in educational activities during the summer. The Half Price Books "Feed Your Brain" summer reading program is a great way to keep young minds productive and make reading fun.

From now through July 31, children in 8th grade and under can participate in the program by picking up a reading log at their local Half Price Books, or downloading a copy at www.hpb.com/fyb. Kids are encouraged to read at least 15 minutes a day. Once they've read 300 minutes, parents and children can stop by the nearest Half Price Books to turn in their completed log and earn 5 Bookworm Bucks.

This year, Half Price Books has expanded the program to include high school students, too. These students are encouraged to read two books and write a short online review to earn their 5 Bookworm Bucks. The online survey can be found at www.hpb.com/fyb.

"Taking a few minutes out of their day to read can help kids better retain the information they learned during school," said Kathy Doyle Thomas, executive vice president and chief strategy officer of Half Price Books. "Encourage your kids to take a book with them wherever they go so they can read whenever they have the opportunity."
