The Gillespie Group Completes Large nora Rubber Flooring Installation at College Campus in Under Two Weeks

Brookdale Community College selects The Gillespie Group for Installation of Flooring at its Academic Registration Building.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ, July 24, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Lincroft, NJ campus of Brookdale Community College, the county college of Monmouth, faced a serious flooring problem. The carpet in its Counseling, Admission and Registration Building, in which all students register for classes, meet with individual faculty members, and perform daily administrative activities, was severely worn, and in dire need of replacement.

The community college administration decided that new carpeting was not a viable solution because of its tendency to wear when subjected to a daily stream of foot traffic. They concluded that a more durable type of flooring was needed. However, many of the potential flooring alternatives required extended installation times. This project needed to be completed in a period of less than two weeks while the students were away on holiday break.

The Gillespie Group, a leading NJ-based commercial flooring provider, proposed installation of nora Rubber Flooring, a solution proven to be both attractive and durable. The Gillespie Group also developed a detailed plan to complete the installation within the two-week window offered by the holiday break.

Made from the highest quality sustainable raw materials, nora rubber flooring provides excellent slip resistance and walking comfort, and has excellent acoustic values. Its extremely dense, non-porous surface resists grease and prevents staining, which results in easy and economical cleaning without the use of harsh chemicals. nora maintains an attractive appearance for over 20 years without the need for subsequent coatings. This environmentally friendly rubber flooring contains no PVC, plasticizers or halogens. It requires no volatile solvents for installation, and can be ground and recycled when replaced.

The administration ultimately selected nora rubber flooring because it is softer under foot, generates less noise and, when compared to vinyl tile, requires less maintenance. John Gillespie, VP of Operations for The Gillespie Group, explains, "While the initial cost of vinyl tile may be lower than nora flooring, its lifetime installed cost tends to be considerably higher due to maintenance and upkeep requirements."

The Gillespie Group had already successfully completed several projects for Brookdale Community College, including carpet replacement in the campus library. When the administration decided to replace the carpet in the Academic Registration Building, new carpeting was briefly considered, but ultimately rejected for a number of reasons:
- DURABILITY: Carpet has an average life span of approximately 10 years, and the administration wanted something that would last longer.
- MAINTENANCE: Carpet requires frequent cleaning, and the administration wanted something that was easily maintained.
- PERFORMANCE: In the event of a stain, carpet needs immediate cleaning to prevent the stain from becoming permanent.

The greatest challenge was the short amount of time available to complete the installation before the students returned from holiday break. The Gillespie Group's solution came in the form of intensive and highly detailed pre-planning. John Gillespie commented, "Everything needed for the installation was pre-purchased and staged; we had everything we needed and in place to begin the project before the students had even left campus."

The Gillespie Group began the installation process the day students left for break. The installation team completed all critical phases of the project, including the addition of accent colors to create visual appeal and interest, within the allotted timeframe, enabling the students to walk on the new flooring surface immediately upon their return. The final phase of the project, installation of nora Rubber Treads, was completed without inconveniencing the returning students, over the course of two days.

John Gillespie attributes his team's ability to complete the project this quickly due to the company's long and extensive experience with nora products. The Gillespie Group has been a nora rubber flooring installer for over 15 years, and has completed dozens of installations throughout the tristate area.

The school administration was extremely pleased with the finished project and the nora flooring. They later awarded The Gillespie Group a contract to install nora Rubber Flooring in the Campus Security Building, a 1,000 square foot project, over the next holiday break.
